Sturdy and reliable but sounds very processed
Scaradise, 12.05.2020
Been using this for years, mainly for busking or as my speaker system for at home (I don't own bluetooth speakers yet, so it's a cool alternative).

The casing is very sturdy, these amps can be battered, abused, thrown down staircases and whatnot.
I've never been a big fan of COSM-technology (the amp sim models), it sounds really digital, but you do get a nice variety of tones of that doesn't bother you. The effects sound really digital as well and often take away quite a bit of low end.
However, the seperate aux input bypasses all that and if you play a backing track through it, it sounds really good through the 4-way speaker system.

It's not really loud, so if you're busking near busy traffic or with say a cajon player, you'll get drown out easily. Most basses will distort at even medium volume, and it's not suited to amplify double basses. Of course with such tiny speakers, that's to be expected
It's not very heavy but not exactly light weight either, so to lug it around on the street I would advise a trolley.

If you don't use the effects, on a battery brick like the Volto, you can actually play for practically the whole day, so the power drain is reasonable.
It has a built-in metronome, but it's not very practical. Nevertheless I often use it as a practice amp.

+ It's battery powered
+ It's very, very sturdy and can handle the street
+ There's options to colour your tone
+ It's not too heavy
+ Comes with a strap
+ Aux-channel sounds decent
+ Has a few rhythm presets
+ Has a metronome
+ Mild on battery drainage
+ It's cheap
+ Has seperate aux in and rec/phones out
+ Has footswitch input

- The COSM amp sim models don't cut it
- Sounds on the wrong side of digital
- the FX take away low end and sound cheap
- Doesn't handle a high input level graciously; distorts easily.
- Hard to cut through background and traffic noise, though it's meant to be an amp for buskers
- The metronome is unpractical
- The tuner is cumbersome and the compressor useless

Micro cube Bass RX is a jack of all trades
2231mech, 24.09.2020
Pros:
• The eight different emulations give you a variety of options to experiment with different tone colors on your bass guitar,
along with the capability to connect a microphone.

• Although they are emulations, the sound quality is remarkable
and you still have the 3-band EQ to manipulate the emulation preset.

• Flanger Chorus and Delay work great.

• The drum machine is excellent for improvisation.

• Recording with basic audio interface plus Micro Cube Bass RX through the REC-OUT output (used as pre-amp) adds the needed gain and volume to the output signal and the FFP corrects the input noise with the help of the compressor.

•Feed Forward Processing (FFP) delivers quality bass sound.
Micro cube is good to use as pre-EQ through the REC-OUT option even connected to high tier studio amps for band practice.

• The 6 x AA makes this amp portable. This amp can be taken outside and it is light considering its' tech.

• Both the amp and the power supply cable are of excellent quality.

• Headphones can be used for night practice.

Cons:
• Compressor is good, but could have been better compared to the amp's capabilities.
•The Tuner is pretty basic

• Reverb doesn't do much

killer package in a tiny little box
Graham K., 25.05.2013
the roland micro cube bass, is unlike any amp I've handled before.
the quality of the case. is something that really needs to be seen to be believed.
its is a heavy duty plastic with thick rubber corners, the grill is metal. and the control panel is all metal, with plastic knobs. it also comes with a half decent carry handle and power supply if you don't fancy using batteries.

ill not go through all the settings because there's millions, you really can find a sound you'll love with this, it mimics 7 other different style amps plus you can have a flat setting or a microphone, its also equipped with a hand full of effects chorus and t-wah. just to name a few.

once your plugged in a ready to play you'll find this little box is a bit of a beast. while it won't be blowing your face off with bass, you'll have the neighbours knocking if your up playing away at night. its rated at about 20 watts, though when the settings are maxed it will seem considerably louder, the 4 4 inch speakers are hard workers. and despite there size handle those ultra lows with ease.

this a useful unit for any occasion. i've taken it to gigs and had it playing back through the PA, though i only did it for fun and its not something i could recommend to anyone, its a great personal practice amp and it does the job out on the street when busking, you can easily do a full day on one set of batteries, and probably go out again the next day too.

the price may seem on the steep side. but your buying a unit, that really is pinochle of quality and performance.

Strurdy, Feature-Packed and Stylish
Halina, 23.04.2015
In these days of flimsy, light, plastic gadgets it is refreshing to come across the Roland Micro Cube Bass RX Combo. The first things that strikes you is the extremely rugged, sturdy appearance. The metal grill, chunky corner protectors and thick edges give you confidence that this is an amp that will stand up to life on the road.

This is possibly the only bass amp you will ever need. It is absolutely jam packed with features providing everything today's bass player requires. It is also worth mentioning that it comes with a great, large print, easy to use manual with lots of diagrams, so you can feel comfortable operating it right from the start.

The 3 band EQ provides a wide range of tones, from smooth to edgy and for further variation of tones, there are 8 amp sounds to choose from, including one especially designed for a microphone.

You get plenty of quality effects, ranging from the essential compressor to the T-Wah which is fun to use.

The tuner is easy to operate and my mp3 player sounds great when plugged into the amp, enabling me to play along. The two sounds mix well together.

The rhythm guide drum machine opens up a whole new world. Not only do you get lots of different drum styles to play along to, each style has 3 variations so you can choose the exact pattern to suit what you are playing on the bass. A handy design feature is that different coloured lights indicate which pattern you are using. The drum sounds are exceptionally crisp and realistic. My bass playing improved a lot using this feature. The only things lacking are waltz and reggae beats.

The batteries give you great freedom and seem to last practically forever! This is a really classy amp that looks and sounds fantastic. You really do get a lot for your money. I would recommend this Roland amp to anyone in a heartbeat.
