Admittedly, it's a lot of money - abe res is worth it!

Rainer & Carmen, 31.12.2013
I am in the classic area on the road, and have been using a fireface UFX since a good year, and am already very happy with this.

Now I have the Octamic XTC in a short time, and the first two shots behind me.

The most important thing for me is the sound, and the XTC is simply brilliant. Since the digitization, I had always the feeling that, despite rising sampling rates and bit depths, the sound simply always looks unnatural.
This is different with the Octamic XTC at all, it sounds pure and absolutely authentic. It's just a blessing to listen to. Even at low sampling rates, it sounds incomparable, which also increases with higher sampling rates.
Soundly, therefore, above all doubt.

It is important, however, that the device can be integrated very securely. I control the XTC as well as the UFX over firewire and TotalMix. UFX and XTC are connected audibly through Adat. The set I use over TotalMix, XTC and UFX are connected via Midi.

I must also mention the system stability. During the last concert recording, somebody switched me off several times in quick succession. Notbook ran on battery, but XTC and UFX, as well as the backup hard disk connected via the memory USB port were de-energized.
A real shock from which I could recover but soon, as the whole set about 1 minute later synonymous and without jumps was available.

The phantom power even with my current-like microphones long cable routes (> 100m) also well with.

So I am completely satisfied, and can recommend the Octamic XTC only to everyone.

The other league

Roland aus U., 26.03.2014
For my mobile recording unit, consisting of a Motu 896 MK3 and 2 ADA8000, I ordered a separate RME Octamic XTC for classic recordings. I run the XTC in Class Compliant mode on an Apple MacBook Pro. The operation is very simple and intuitive. After a while, the operation steps are learned and the recordings can begin. Together with Neumann microphones, the XTC is ideally suited for live recordings of orchestras in the AB, XY or MS method. In comparison, the Motu falls significantly. Not to mention the ADA8000. The XTC provides a clean signal and also has a lot more reserve in the pre-amplification than the Motu.
Then the idea came to use the XTC in connection with the Motu (because of Firewire). So: an ADA8000 expand and the XTC purely. In addition I have still the Wordclock source from the XTC taken and the Motu and ADA8000 connected.

And lo and behold: suddenly the Motu sounds very clean. Even the ADA8000 is very much appreciated. Thanks to the extremely good Wordclocks from the XTC, the entire unit works very well and is nearly equivalent to my stationary RME AD / DA unit in the studio.
The Octamic XTC is not cheap but even for a semiprofessional studio the scale when it comes to mobile recording. Just another league.
