In der Zwischenzeit bin ich auf der Suche nach einem 32-bit Rechner, um zu sehen was da läuft.
Fazit: Ich würde mir das Ding zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt nicht unbedingt zulegen. Es scheint wirklich, als ob RME das Produkt etwas übereilt auf den Markt gebracht hat. Die 64 bit Version der Treiber hatte wahrhaftig Probleme. Warum nicht die Musikmesse abwarten?

Soundmäßig ist das Gerät allerdings auf gewohntem hohem RME-Standard. Wunderbare Auflösung und Dynamik. Musterbeispiel. Die restlichen Features habe ich noch nicht durchgespielt und kann nicht viel sagen, weil ich mit der Installation kämpfen musste.

Noch etwas: Das Gerät sollte gut gelüftet werden können, es wird nämlich wirklich warm. Drei Betriebsstunden bei Zimmertemperatur reichen aus, um den Kaffee in der Glaskanne schön warm zu halten.
Selbstverständlich werde ich meinen Eintrag auf dem Laufenden halten. Man sollte die Ereignisse zurückverfolgen können. Und man sollte vor allem fair sein.

Nach erfolgreicher Treiberinstallation (64 bit) konnte ich mich endlich in Ruhe mit dem Gerät beschäftigen. Die "Total Mix"-SW ist einfach und übersichtlich. Wer früher schon mal mit PCI-Karten von RME gearbeitet hat, auch mit der alten 96/8, wird sich schnell zu Recht finden. Als Stand Alone ist das Gerät jedoch bedingt einsetzbar, da man keinen leichten Zugriff auf alle wichtigen Parameter hat, um nachzujustieren, falls erforderlich. Da gibt es andere Rack-Geräte in 1U-Höhe die viel besser dafür geeignet und preiswerter sind, ohne unbedingt viel schlechter zu klingen.
Die Effekte sind für Live-Einsätze wunderbar, die Presets sehr gut durchdacht, fürs Studio jedoch auch bedingt einsetzbar. Es ist m.E. schade das hervorragende primäre Signal des UFX nicht ebenso hochwertig in der Effektkette zu bearbeiten.
Im Übrigen, auf 32-bit Rechnern funktionierte alles auf Anhieb. Absolut keine Probleme auch mit den alten Treibern gehabt.

Alles in allem also ein sehr gutes Gerät, das die bewährten Stärken von RME noch einmal bestätigt und letztendlich wieder Spaß macht damit zu arbeiten. Erste Kinderkrankheiten erfolgreich überstanden.
