Finally: at home everywhere!
Daniele T., 10.09.2016
I just waited and postponed for months the decision to try and buy the RME Babyface Pro, as I couldn't commit to spend the money it costs.

At the other end of my life, I use a Fireface UCX on my job, which I love in each and every detail. But I've never plugged my guitars into it, because that's job, you know, corporate realm, business land.

I was afraid the Babyface Pro was still just toy room stuff compared to the UCX, though at a price tag that still required serious (and honest) questioning within myself.

I play guitar in a noise / drone / ambient setting, and I'm heavily dependent on a tableful of digital effects (mostly Strymon and Eventide) which isn't exactly travel-friendly.

I want to start dig into Cycling74's Max and and learn how to "build" my own sound effects chain in there, explore ppooll and elevate Ableton Live from recording workbench to realtime processing tool.

All of this requires a portable front-end for guitar of unquestionable neutrality in tonal response, together with the lowest possible transport latency.

RME Babyface Pro delivers what it says on the box, and then some, too. I had to switch the routing off within TotalMix to be convinced I was hearing my through-path signal, for how negligible latency (on a 2015 MacBook Pro i7) is.

I've added a hefty psu, even if Babyface Pro works like a charm just with the USB bus, without external power, because it sounds so pristine, so transparent, so... like there isn't anything on the path, that I want to exploit all the headroom it can handle.

I find the DSP-based reverb and delay pretty usable for my training schedules at hotel rooms, and the output stage can really drive even the most current-hungry headphones of my arsenal to life, real life.

Just be warned, though, of something you may just ignore until you hold the Babyface Pro in your hands: size-wise it's tiny and compact, but weight-wise it's a brick, due to the seriously "Made in Germany" construction. It'll get into your laptop shoulder bag easily, but it will laugh at every penny you've spent for light-weight equipment.

It's pleasure to touch and operate, beside what it'll make of your most precious sound sources in audible terms, and RME are renown for the relentless work they put on refining their (already winning) drivers even further. Whoa, they promised Babyface Pro would have been a major leap from the previous hardware... and word was followed by facts.

Amazing RME utility
Boggs, 10.04.2018
Needing to replace my old broken AD converter, a Roland Quad Capture I used for gigs and recording at friend's houses. I decided I may as well go ahead and get something of a higher caliber with a more flexible I/O set up.

While using the Babyface Pro with both XLR inputs active in separate Live 9 tracks on a 2015 macbook pro with three USB devices and multiple Plug In's active I can perform my sets with no latency at 48K and 256 sample buffer size. That's for live performances where I need absolutely no glitches or dropouts. Recording at home or in studio I run multiple mics through ADAT at even higher settings with no issues. It's a very powerful device in an amazingly portable form.

Totalmix FX which is infinitely useful but requires practice and the rotary encoder, (I still occasionally select and boost the wrong channel), are my only gripes and they're my own fault really.

This device has been a huge boon to my set up and is extremely intuitive and straightforward. Not to imply you shouldn't read the manual, rather that when you do you won't be left scratching your head for too long.
