Well, Symphobia. I have to admit that I have been infected by the praises in the relevant forums, and they were not really wrong.

But from the beginning:
Symphobia pursues a different concept from most other orchestral libraries; The content consists partly of ensemble patches - that is, multisample programs, each covering a complete set of instruments (strings, woodwind and brass) - and on the other hand, from all sorts of effects and new forms of play. The latter have always been negligently neglected in the sampling canon, so Symphobia fills a real gap here. The effects sound fresh, lively and inspiring through the bank, but have a distinct thriller and horror hit in the selection, which limits the stylistic flexibility somewhat.

The ensemble patches I find rather through. On the one hand, the basic samples have an irresistible overall sound, which is more lively than most other orchestral libraries; They are therefore excellently suited to breathing life by doubling a rather sterile library like the VSL. On the other hand, the programming in many places leaves something to be desired; The legato patches have, for example, an unnatural kick-in and swing-out behavior, so I had to invest only a few days of contact reprogramming, in order to be able to use them really flexibly.

Particularly noteworthy are the excellent staccato patches of all groups as well as the legatos of the string group. The longer playing styles of the woodwinds sometimes have to struggle with mood problems, the legato patches of the brass band group are useful, but lag with their 2 Velocity stages and the slightly washed-out basic sound behind the brass collection from the house SAM.

If Symphobia cost half, the library would be a clear 5-star candidate. For> 1000 euros but remains a bit bitter taste. One should be sure that the rather special concept fills several gaps in the personal workflow (this was the case with me) and also in the possession of the full version of contact to get a fair value for the price.

Basic orchestra library for fast results

In terms of sound, this library offers a wealth of high-quality sounds and is especially tailored for dramatic or bombastic film music. In addition to the most important orchestral elements you will find a lot of dreamy and dark sounds. Also suitable for musicians who are not so familiar with orchestration, who want to get straight to good results. Works well with other libraries like Cinematic Strings etc., especially if you like it not just epic and want to compose even finer sounds. The library seems to be a bit more fundamental than Symphobia 2, but the multinationals have personally promised me more in the successor, the only downside was the quite high price.
