Top, but only as an extension well usable

Markus820, 11.01.2016
As always, my order was packed correctly and delivered quickly by Thomann 3 days after order (shipping to Austria). The installation runs absolutely smoothly and everything is done with the included USB stick - 2 registrations at Project Sam and Native Instruments later you can also get started. Since OE2 is my first trip in terms of virtual instruments, I was very positively surprised, how easy and quickly everything is set up and registered.

The library makes a very clear impression and loads with my Dualcore 8GB RAM calculator extremely fast the individual patches, but also multis. Also the integration in "Studio one 2" from Presonus is absolutely no problem and immediately a workflow is created, without being annoyed from the beginning, as for example with some other manufacturers, which use the extremely complicated i-Lok process, what Ultimately also influenced my decision for a product of Project Sam.

The sounds all sound absolutely to Hollywood and one feels from the beginning like a small Hans room, as soon as one times in the keys skin. First official results are achieved very quickly and a tedious mixing is not necessary, as all sound patches are already super-mixed. In terms of sound, therefore, a more than big TOP, as Eastwest and consorts can already pack.

Even if I was aware before the purchase that it is only a small "Best of" of Project Sam, but I was disappointed in the selection of sound patches. These are 50% quite funny, but they are completely useless for the broad masses (who needs more than a maximum of 1-2 times this completely inharmonic orchestral effects, which are represented in OE2!). The other 50% range from grandios (legato oboe!) To absolute madness! But what is still a huge catch in the percussion patches is the fact that Project Sam probably felt in the second edition of Essentials as a great idea to completely renounce snares (at least one would have been for the price already and would be Also sufficient) and a bombast "Schepperdibummboingbadummtsching!" From the two libraries of the True Strike series in OE2. Not that you can not use these effects, but this section was still reasonably covered at OE1 to put enough "bumms" in its arrangements. Also on some senseless wimmerpatches with the strings, which you also with the Modwheel hinbekommt, one could have renounced in the Project Sam Project and can add more 2-3 legato instruments more. Also that the Streicherktionen by the bank slowly swell entices permanently to dramatic compositions with lead-foot on the tear pedal. Fresh and powerful compositions are thus almost entirely impossible and only possible by means of detours - in the Netherlands they seem to like to be cared for ... even when composing!

However, what certainly surpasses the existing legato instruments oboe, flute and trumpet. These 3 instruments sound absolutely perfect and can be incorporated into any composition using Modwheel.

In short: OE2 is a library that definitely has it in itself! However, without supplements of other libraries (best of course by PS, which was certainly not quite unintentionally in the creation of the OE series) is on the way to Hollywood probably for the time being in the Netherlands, where the men and ladies of Project Sam welcome A handsome bunch of cheese, under which, however, some very tasty treats are slumbering!

Nevertheless, a clear purchase recommendation for all those like me, the times in the world of Hollywood sniff and quickly fun and (limited) perfect sounding results want to achieve.

Both thumps up! Super extension to part 1

Steffen_spielt, 14.01.2015
If you need details about the content, please look at the product page of the manufacturer Project Sam, I will go to the following characteristics and the overall picture:
At first I thought after the installation and after the first review of the instrument selections and folders that there in the Compare to Orchestral Essential 1 (which I have already appreciated very much) is less for the same money. BUT: far from it. Because here, as a standalone program, there is a perfect complement to Part 1, NOTHING doubles up in sounds and you can expand your sound palette and design possibilities. In addition to useful new orchestral tones and articulations to strings, brass, woodwinds, percussions, choir etc., there are also five wonderful new legato instruments, which not only play fantastically, but also very authentic. Particularly the Legato trumpet and oboe impress immediately here by sound and dynamics in the play way. The choral section came a little short at OE1 and added 2 new articulations plus new textures (harmonics by pushing the key on 1 key).
The instrument groups can be accessed on a manageable number on samples, which saves loading times and PC usage, and which all sound TOP! Like the product name, it is the "essential" sound colors of the orchestra. These sound as per or "out of the box" without any need to adjust SUPER and can be impressed by the integrated effect sections, game behavior knobs and assignable game dynamics with Modwheel or Velocity impressive and mostly realistic. So a great foundation to cover the rock and pop as well as film music the coarsest in an authentic way. In addition, there are versatile "multis", ie patched patches, which are called as a group and are perfectly matched to each other. These should be especially interesting for soundtrack writers, because they are mostly changed by effects and synth parts and go into very different sound environments, from comedy to drama, epic, action to horror.
A bonus is the bonus patch, the silence (orchestra sitting ready and still there), or the orchestral preparation and instrument tuning sound, which can quickly create some reality in a project.
Nevertheless, I have to say: Without OE1 this package would be for the pure orchestration of soundtracks too thin. Possibly. It can be used for one or the other rock / pop song, to which precisely these sound colors and articulations apply. Since there is eg only one "Full Orchestra with Choir", while the OE1 has several FULL orchestras for different purposes (Action, Suspense, Epic ...), I would as a new entrant more to OE1, which forms A solid foundation. However, again for OE2, it is clear that, unlike OE1, there are "mixed orchestral sections", ie different combined instrument groups. These, however, usually have special articulations again, which makes things interesting, but very special and limits the versatile use. As I said, I see OE2 as an extension and great, but alone as a library something too special or too "hanging in the air", not usable for versatile use. If I need it even more comprehensive (as in my case) to be more versatile with regard to the articulations and sound colors without having to immediately again 600-700 euros on the counter to have to put for a giant package (which I then only 50% excite ), Then the package rounds this basic basis (OE1) still thoroughly and puts a base with the Legato instruments and other multis on it! These can also be impressively modified by integrated effect sections, game behavior knobs and assignable game dynamics via Modwheel or Velocity.
The computer utilization is low on my system (i7, 64bit, 8GB RAM) and it runs so far satisfactorily stable. The user interface is adapted to the individual instrument selections and is intuitive very easy to use. Also a great plus for beginners.
Conclusion:
All in all, I have to say again that Project SAM has brought a top supplement to the market. Surely a quick orchestration of a pop song or similar non-classical genre is a matter other than composing a sophisticated orchestral soundtrack. For the latter, the scope of design possibilities in the package will certainly be a bit short, since you have to think about more extensive libraries with more detailed user interfaces (if you stay with the same manufacturer: eg Symphobia 1 or 2 or Lumina), but then synonymous Double costs. However, with this package you have a whole series of often required orchestral sound colors of the highest quality with five great legato instruments.
