Real workhorse
mitsakos, 23.05.2020
Massive and heavy combo, a bit difficult to move around. If portability is important to you, you should definitely take that into consideration.

Sound-wise, I love it. I've been a 5150/6505 tone enthusiast for many years and the tone is definitely there. Not exactly the same as the 120W heads through 2x12 or 4x12 cabs, but that's totally expected. Definitely NOT usable at home volume.

Quality-wise, I consider it to be very robust and solidly built. This does not mean that you get to bash it around (too heavy for that anyway), but you won't get scared over bump or scratch.

I bought it at about 550 euros, which I think was an excellent price. 700 euros is a bit expensive in my opinion, due to its limitations. The tone is worth every cent though.

Not the same as the USA head..
24.04.2014
First of all i would like to point out that this amp does not sound quite the same as the made in USA head. The effects loop is just terrible, once you plug something there the sound changes dramatically, goes thin and tremply like you dimmed the presence knob. The on board reverb is also terrible and i did found the rhythm channel quite unusable. The clean channel is sharp and harsh but you can still get some nice clean tones with heavy effects (also depending on your guitar's pickups). Now the lead channel. This is propably why you bought this amp (i know i did) and it really is the only thing that quite worth on this amp.You will definately need an overdrive boost to tight things up,a noise gate and a speaker change and with a bit of volume this amp will deliver crushing metal tones with the quite distinctive peavey sound. It has 5 times more gain that you will ever need so you need to be moderate on the pre knob to stay tight (i run the gain at about 3 when boosted for death metal and around 5 without the boost).Another thing is that this amp is extremely heavy so if you are lookinh for an amp to move around, think again.Overall this amp is not the best out there,it really is a one trick pony and having played the 6505 head version i can say that the head is a better made amp, more usable and ballsy. If you looking for an aggresive metal tone on a combo for less than 500 euro it might be the one but if you need more than that maybe look at something else.

Classic Peavey
02.06.2016
Bought this for home use mostly.

Pros:

Classic Peavey tone for those, like me, who like a bit of fuzziness and pronounced mids in their sound.

Good Quality for the price

Relatively responsive to eq twinking.

Cons:

Lacks Clarity the more gain you dial in

Not the best Clean channel around

Does not really have the dirty punch other amps like marshall seem to have.

I havent used the amp for long so i cant really say anything about its durability, though it looks sturdy enough.

As with all tube amps you need to crank it up a bit, to get the most out of it. If you want this for bedroom use and have neighbour problems you had better go for something lighter.

Sympathique !
Elian, 15.07.2011

Merci Peavey !
