Transforms the Sound from Modern to "Classic"
mix4munich, 10.02.2018
My instruments are all of the "modern noble bass" type, and my amps too are all newer developments. Great equipment, really well-sounding, very versatile in the sound, extremely detailed, every little detail in the sound is displayed cleanly. Like a well-trained model athlete.

And then you get the idea that it should really sound oldschool - so with subtle Zerre, tons of character and a bit like a beer belly. As before. And without having to buy a new amp or another instrument right now. You can turn down the heights, but that's not the old school sound for a long time, but modern with less heights.

After a long research, I stumbled across this box by chance, had it on my watch list for weeks. Then when the price at the big T fell from 149 EUR to 109 EUR, I struck, without really knowing what to expect, because you can not find too much information about this device.

The next day the package was there. First impression after unpacking: That's tiny! Second impression: But built like a tank! And the color - Crimson Red - is just stunning.

Then, rausgekramt the 9V power supply, and then to the rehearsal. In an otherwise purely acoustic band, I play the bass directly into the PA (digital console and RCF ART 710a), which again results in a more modern sound. On suspicion, I put all controls on Crimson Red at 13 o'clock (so it is the same, no matter whether the device is now switched on or off). Hammer hard, what sounds out of the boxes! It sounds like the days when bass players had a hard time keeping up with the level of the guitarists and their amps always had to go just before the boiling point - Tubenzerre not intended, but absolutely unavoidable. With really big bucks! With character! With everything and sharp! But I'm drifting off ...

The Crimson Red produces a subtle, very roaring sound and (felt) a bit of compression. He adds powerful bass and low midrange, but without bothering in the slightest. The highs are very subtle, but because of the overtones of the subtle Zerre somewhere but absolutely assertive in the mix, and in the arrangement super to locate. There are a few details in the sound, but there are tons of character!

I could now set more or less level, gain or brilliance on the three controls. But I do not want to, I found my dream sound right off the bat. Sack cement, how cool is that! And absolutely inspiring, you try to unpack the styles of the 60s and 70s, Classic Soul or the beginnings of Hard or Art Rock. Led Zeppelin, the old Black Sabbath, but also lots of classic funk and soul, Let the Sunshine in / Aquarius, etc. It's just fun!

In any case, in this project the Crimson Red is my "always on" sound machine, and for my other band (this is more modern and more violent, but we also play a few classics of Priest, Maiden and the like) I will be him also try it out. And if I like him that much, I'll buy one more!

In terms of criticism, I can only say that the label is absolutely illegible in the stage light (but it looks beautiful in the light), and that the operation is a bit fumbling. Of course, this is due to the small case size, the part is hardly larger than the new bunch of Winz effects by Mooer and Co.
