Impressive reverb captured in an impressive stomp pedal

Carnivore, 20.02.2018
All reviews on this unit are unanimous and consistent: this is an impressive pedal. And that happens for a good reason.

During many years I tried everything under the sun and today as a result I painstakingly managed to put together a large effect rack (Replifex, GMajor 2, GForce, Eventides, DBXs, Electro Harmonix, Roland, and many, many others, aside from more than 200 pedals), hosting both new and old units. In a nutshell, what did and still feels good and sounds right to my ears over the years.

Moreover, is not easy for me to fit something new in my rack. Curiously enough, it was very easy to fit this pedal. From day one, the sound is captivating and inspiring. Lush, wide, large, grand for the lack of better or more descriptive terms. The sound is nothing short of fantastic. Is natural, organic, and even impossible reverbs sound like augmented reality. Atop this varied and impeccable reverbs, you will also find two elegant, classy shimmers (not a gimmick which sounds like odd digital artifacts) and even an adequate delay that just feels right. Features for ages. Each and all of them 100% usable for both live and studio.

Handling the pedal is easy and intuitive. If you can find your way with a Boss RV, you will be at home with this. Special mention to the effect mix, which does not work as the traditional mix you usually find in reverb units. It never masks or "eat up" your original guitar tone.

Cons? Not many if any. Although, and subject to personal perception, I would prefer a heavier metal case that feels more solid and pots that travel somehow firmer. Compared with my Digitech Hardwire, the quality of the latter is incomparable with the Neunaber. This feels extremely light (almost like plastic, being this aluminum probably). Again, this is personal preference since is nothing wrong with this pedal. It will probably not break or fail on you in the middle of a gig, granted, but I would prefer a more solid feel at this price point.

I am playing non stop since day one. So not only immense, also impressive. Highly recommended from my side.

High quality pedal for high price, but lacking in some features

John Richardson, 30.12.2017
I brought this pedal "blind", on the basis solely of reviews, the reason being that it was relatively new and I was unable to find shops in either Finland or the UK that stocked it. The quality of the pedals shines through and the clarity of the reverbs is comparable to Stryman's, which I also tried out, and which have a somewhat higher price tag.

The are a fairly large number of effects in the unit, some of which borrow algorithms from other Neunaber effects, many of them in the ambient/ethereal category , and fewer conventional reverbs. I nice touch is the presence of modulation and delay in some of the parameters. This pedal is ingeniously thought out, and produces some excellent atmospherics.

Two "mistakes" in my view are setting a maximum of 50% wet signal (unless you turn off the dry signal altogether with a switch on the top of the pedal). This level could have gone up further in my view for more saturated sounds. The other is the absence of presets, even a small amount like three. Each of the effects has such a particular quality that they don't bear repeated more than once or twice in a live set. The alternative is to get on your hands and knees, which for a singer-songwriter like myself isn't conducive to a compelling performance. Perhaps for some users, I'm sure, but I'm thinking now whether another pedal with precepts might also be needed, or simply replacing this one. Alternatives are something like Styrman's Blue Sky or (even) Boss's RV-6. The shimmer of the latter isn't as hifi, but it seems more versatile in some ways, even though it too doesn't have precepts. I'm not yet sure how useful this will end up being to me, ultimately, and I might end up replacing it.
