No switching nonsense, no hassle!

I have owned a Morley optical Wah pedal before, the Vai Bad Horsie 2, so I know how rugged, well made, and high quality Morley pedals are. I sold the BH2 in my youth and regretted it ever since, having experimented with several traditional switch-activated Wahs including Dunlop and Vox. Most of these suffered when used with heavier distortions, and were much more suited to clean or light crunch sounds.

The George Lynch Dragon 2 addresses the latter issue.

Apart from being an optical and switchless activation (which for me personally is a massive advantage over pretty much all other Wah pedals already), there is a stomp switch to the left of the pedal which activates the "WOW" function. With normal Wah pedals, their effect tends to get lost or watered down when you kick your overdrive or distortion in. This is also true of the Dragon 2's normal mode, which again is much more audible when used from clean to light or mid crunch channels. But kick on the "WOW" function when you are using high gain, and the effect of the pedal is boosted to give a much more aggressive contour across the sweep, resulting in a much clearer, more present Wah effect when you're shredding through your gnarliest amp setting.

I see the "WOW" function as essentially giving you a second type of Wah pedal in the same enclosure as the normally traditional type of Wah that you get out of the box.

On the right hand side of the pedal there is another stomp switch called the "Wah Lock" with a "Notch" knob above it. This takes out the "...but you can't NOTCH a sprung optical pedal!" part of the great Wah pedal debate. Simply activate the switch and then use the knob to find your favourite sweet spot in the Wah's sweep range, and switch it off again. Now you don't have to find that spot on-the-fly, or worry about having to keep your foot on the pedal due to the spring-loaded system, simply stomp the switch mid-song, and there's your preferred notch-point, already "saved" and on-tap whenever you need it. Pretty awesome, eh?

The Wah activation itself is instant the moment you move the main pedal. Unlike some switchless pedals I have used from other manufacturers, this pedal doesn't simply deactivate straight away when you bring the pedal all the way back up again. I have always found that to be very annoying in pedals such as the Crybaby switchless, as I like to use the whole contour sweep, and this feature can be very twitchy and unreliable to use. The Dragon 2 has a very slight delay in the time it takes to deactivate, it feels less than one second, but it does allow you to use the entire range of the sound without worrying about how far back up you are bringing the pedal and are you going to accidentally cut the effect off before you go for that second "WAH". In use, the delay on the Dragon 2 is just enough to give you that chance to get the full sweep, but not so long that it's a hindrance to that next riff in your song. There are plenty of video demos on YouTube etc that display this if you are unsure.

All this aside, the Morley range in general are great gigging pedals. Solid build quality, and very robust workhorses. This pedal is no exception. Add to that some pretty nice artwork on the pedal itself and the red casing, and you've got a piece of art.

I won't be making the same mistake as the younger me, this one's a keeper!

Just love the way wah is instantly on or off

From all the wahs I love the handling of Morley wahs the most.. The way them are instantly on or off helps so much when you have other things to take care of than look did the wah go on/off properly.
I adjusted the trimpod delay to start/stop the wah as fast as possible.
It works nicely with all kinds of music. I Like the WoW sound, its something that sound nice all around fretboard and usable in all kinds of music. Do not like the booster effect because it seems to be "too much" for me.
Sweep is quite slow start - fast end, so delicate movement of foot makes perfect.
Guite heavy, but three stripes of velcro keeps it in plave in my pedaltrain. If playing with overlong trouser hems, your trouser hem might stick under the heel end of the pedal. I also tested to slightly adjust the sweep by slightly adjusting the leds inside, but it is not easy to get good results, have to try few times and still might not be happy and risk the led connectors. Just keep the leds as em are. More suitable for high gain stuff that blues.
