Great Theremin - but the Kit option is not always a money saver
SimonFry, 21.01.2014
This is a great Theremin. Everything I expected.

If you want to save a little bit of cash and enjoy building then this kit is a great option. I will say however it's only financially worth it though if you already have all the gear to build the Theremin (soldering iron, solder, 2 part epoxy cement, pliers, screw drivers, clamp, sandpaper, wood treatment etc.) and are able to follow instructions well. As a side note, I can't emphasize how important it is to purchase a very good small tipped iron. I had a nightmare soldering with my sub-standard iron. The job could have been done much quicker (and better) with a better iron.

The building instructions are mostly in written word. It's a bit "wordy" if I'm honest. I found simpler assembly bits were explained great detail, but on the flip side it assumes you know what every part in the box is called (machine screw #40 ¼" blah blah blah....). There is no picture key to identify what the parts are. Being an expensive bit of kit, you don't want to get it wrong. Also because I had purchase the "Plus" model, I had to flip between 2 instruction manuals (the standard one and the upgrade manual). You have to switch to the upgrade manual about half way through the standard manual (but it doesn't tell you when to do that).

Overall the Theremin is fantastic. I love it. I read in forums that you need a headphone amplifier if you're using headphones. You don't... it's perfectly loud enough. Go get one, they're great fun!

Simple and well described
Erwin H., 04.03.2014
About the Etherwave Theremin itself, I would say little, except that it is entirely in the style of Moog through and through a quality product, in every respect.
But maybe a few impressions for the assembly are helpful for the one or the other.

Basically I can say, if you have no left hands, the assembly does not represent a real difficulty. The instructions are easy to understand - the only drawback is that this is split and thus from the instructions for the "standard" theremin and the upgrade (Who wants to convert Theremin to Theremin Plus), which requires some orientation work in the documentation.

Most of the time you need the housing, which you can grind, varnish, grow, whatever you want - take a lot of time here and pay attention to good editing, you will have much more pleasure in the instrument (you tend to be Here to the impatience :-))

In any case you should have already gained experience with a soldering iron experience, since in total about 30 soldering points are soldered and the danger, with too much heat the board to be damaged, is already given.

If, therefore, someone would like to lend a personal note to a already unique instrument, the kit is highly recommended. And in general - if you want to buy an etherwave Theremin, you should definitely use the "plus" version. Even if it is not planned for the first time, playing a synthesizer over the Theremin will be an enrichment that you would not want to miss.
