The positive surprise at all

Chris F., 30.09.2010
I bought the MX220WR for my 10 year old daughter and because of the low price first of all not particularly high expectations. The delivery took place post-free by post, well 36 hours after I had ordered over the Internet and paid with PayPal. Faster is probably no more ... so the birthday was saved. But what awaited me then surprised me so positively that I would like to express myself here. At first there were 3 boxes in the room.

When building, you should really take time and sort everything. To snuff or even to discard a single disc will sooner or later, because no single particle is superfluous. From the unpacking to the first sample of the complete set to count 3-4 hours is certainly not exaggerated.
I am a technician, but not a musician, and had not previously mounted or even fitted a drum kit. The otherwise very good instruction has unfortunately quite bad photos. The pictures of the English version are somewhat better.

The only thing, which I think is really urgent to note, the edge of the drums should be smoothed very carefully with a piece of 240 sanding paper before assembly. Here, carefully remove some quirks and level the entire edge or clean it. Without this operation, the resonability, the durability and certainly the sound of the skins will deteriorate severely, because no really even train can be produced. Per boiler it takes but no 5 minutes extra.

The construction of all parts is very simple and functional, everything very cheap, but not cheaply processed. Except for the edges of the boiler, no further work or emptying is necessary. Sharp edges or clamps I could not discover. One is accustomed to a lot from China. Also, the materials used do not develop severe odors. In the event of any defects or wear, it is safe to repair some of them yourself since everything is easy to understand.

The sound of the assembled components is in any case satisfying, price-oriented even outstanding. Feintuning, especially skins, is, of course, absolutely decisive for the achievable result. If you are on the road with two left ears, you might want to consult a gold ear. Hardly anybody will have a hi-fi system, which delivers real percussion sound, which is why CDs use little as a voice aid. You must have stored the right sound as a memory in memory. A few tricks, such as the right damping of the bass drum or a little felt under the snare, should be synonymous to get everything out of the set, what goes.

One should be clear that a clean construction of such a kit, calculated by a foreign specialist commercially, would cost significantly more than one Thomann paid for the whole set! The IKEA principle of a Billy.

We had a lot of fun with the setup and got to know a drums and its mechanics for the first time. Some negative reviews that I have read here, maybe also could be simple buildup.

The pools are, of course, the acoustically weakest point. Not only before you appear before the audience or if you are on the way to the skill, you should think of replacement soon. But for television appearances with DSDS surely no such a set will use. For the beginners' exercise, however, the basins are also sufficient and the limited volume is probably an advantage in the practice environment.

Of course, the whole set is also not a suitable object to build daily, up or down. For this, the clamps are too simple and the pipes too thin. But cleanly adjusted and strong with the hand tightened, will not be solved so quickly by itself. It is therefore more suitable for stationary applications than for continuous reconstruction.

In the end, the optics are also right. The foil in weinrot-metallic looks really cool and noble, nothing works cheaply or unsolide. You can be proud of the finished set and no one can see it just 222 Euro free house.

Our private conclusion: The price / performance ratio is incredibly good. We do not regret having bought it here for a long time instead of a used one. If you put it correctly and the instructions will not be disappointed. This is the perfect delivery service, so Thomann is really recommendable.
