Expectations more than fullfilled

Bilbro, 16.05.2017
Bilbro says:

I am a 55 year old hobby bass player who "converted " from electric guitars three years ago. I started with a Warwick short scale Corvette to see if I can learn to play bass without giving out a fortune.

This year I decided to buy a long scale and have tried Fenders and Yamahas etc. (The usual choices hanging up in guitar shops). I did a bit of searching online and had not even heard of Marcus Miller or his music (sorry man) until I noticed the V7 series from Sire he has put his name to. I didn't fancy the look because they are very Fendery shaped (but still get cracking reviews ) and I was looking for something diiferent. Et Voila, The M7 !

I will start with the weight. Lighter that a Fender Jazz, sits at a nice angle either playing seated or standing.

The body is thinner than I expected but this does not affect the sound. (In my opinion, but I am not a professional player)

The neck is very sleek, well finished and you can fly all over it, even when your hands are sweaty. String height is lower than my Warwick and I had a bit of clatter and buzz playing the low F and Bb, but a bit of
sring bending and pushing down each side of the nut soon corrected this. The dot inlays are nearer the upper edge of the neck and I personally can't see them when sitting or standing, so for me at least they might as well not be there..

The variation of the tones that you can get out of this
instrument are really amazing, I am sure that I have not disscovered all of them yet!
5 knobs and 3 switches, really Marcus ?

This leads me to my only negative comment about the M7

There is no delivered "Handbook" that tells you which toggle switch position does what and In passive mode I did not hear a great deal of diffence when tweaking the Treble and Bass knobs. Only when you switch to active mode does the frequency stack knob "thingy" make a BIG difference. (maybe I should put fresh batteries in and change this review later :-))

Last word..
Just be carefull when you flip from passive to active..there is a big difference in volume.. these pick ups kick ass..

All in all guys and gals, money well spent.

Best value for money ever

13.11.2016
I had heard a lot about these basses and decided to go ahead and buy the M7. I already own a couple of Fender Jazz USA and a Rick 4003 so this would be a nice addition to the "arsenal".

The construction is up to par with the best of the best. The bass came in perfect condition. All I had to do was lower a bit the 4th string. Intonation and the general setup was great.

As far as sound, this preamp allows you to dial in pretty much any tone you want. If you add to that the fact that you can have the pickups in humbucking parallel / single coil / humbucking serial, you can imagine the large spectrum of available tones.

All in all, the best value for money of all the basses I own. Sire did an amazing job here.
