Wonderful !

Langohr, 12.11.2014
The instrument is a "plain Jane", a simple beauty, but with the emphasis on: beauty.

The wood used is of high quality, the processing is from my point of view immaculate.

There are two rather unimportant Krikpunkte:

1.) The mechanics have a lot of play in the axles and therefore they are quite wacky. But you keep the mood, so the function is ok.

2.) A belt pin is not available, which one must according to Larrivee itself. Ok, it's a trifle to do, but strangely, I find this view already.

The sound?

Well, I admit, "out of the box" I was initially disappointed. The sound was strong and sturdy, but in the sustain strange: after the attack, the decay process (Decay) went very fast, for my taste too fast. The sound was (too) short, dry and percussive at this stage. So not what I expected. On the other hand, the sound stayed on a lower level on a very beautiful and almost endlessly sustaining sustain. This in turn corresponded exactly to my expectations. So somehow the whole thing was still unbalanced.

So I searched. Larrivee recommends 12-string strings for this guitar model, but the model has been shipped from the German distributor for some reason with a set of 13 (D'Addario, which I do not like, but this is a matter of taste). So fly a 12 set of elixirs. And lo, friends, the sun went up: the instrument sounded perfectly balanced. The previously "stalled" appearing sustain was now available extensively.

The sound ?

I can only say: dreamlike. Warm and round basses, but never spongy, but rather extremely precise, tight and defined. Silky beading heights and clear, accentuated mids. Sound-defined sound at its finest, while loud and effective. In spite of all clarity and definition, the instrument always sounds "gentle", never aggressive, somehow also radiant major chords appear in the gentle minor. I know this sounds crazy, but I can not describe it better.

Simply the best sound on a very high level.

My comparative construction-similar Guild F47RC, which costs after all a thousand more, had to give itself purely acoustically in the picking clear beaten, in the Strumming lie both, albeit differently, at the same time at the same time. When playing through the built-in pickup, the Guild has clearly the nose because of the excellent D-TAR with microphone in the guitar body. A pickup, which exclusively on Piezo sets, comes by the system of the sound of an (additional) microphone pickup is not approaching here, in any case, cuts are expected in the sound and the Larrivee is not an exception (how should it?). However, if the larrivee is also covered with a good micro, the sound is of the utmost quality. To this end, more in the afternoon.

All in all: my "best buy".

ADDITION:

This guitar is factory-equipped with a "LRBaggs Stagepro Element". After about a year I have now expanded the built-in pickup to an "LR Baggs Stagepro Anthem". The dimensions of the electronics of the "Stagepro Element" are precisely identical with the electronics of the "Stagepro Anthem". In this respect, the exchange of the electronics is merely a simple 1: 1 replacement by loosening 4 screws, as well as the insertion of the Anthem microphone into the Body with the supplied double adhesive tape. No cutting work is required.

The starting point of the expansion was the fact that the Stagepro "Elements", which was installed at the factory by Larrivee, is a very good one among the piezo pickups, but ultimately it is only a piezo that does not get around the system-related disadvantages of all piezos System-induced piezo "quack", which in the case of this guitars / pickup combination in the area around the 1.6 kHz unpleasantly pushes forward.

How has the sound changed?
What improvements have been made?

I anticipate the result in two words: "great class". The aim was fully achieved. The piezo "quack" has disappeared. Instead, the guitar now sounds free and airy, the wood of the body is warm in its vibrations, and can be heard clearly in a manner and intensity that was not heard before. One is almost tempted to say, "This guitar does not have a pickup, it just sounds louder."

Conclusion:
The "LR Baggs Anthem" belongs undoubtedly to the top class of pickups. He is certainly not cheap, but from my - subjective - view worth every penny. It is simply the best pickup of all my acoustic guitars.

The L-03RE has gained tremendously through the additional installation of the "Anthem" microphone and the exchange of electronics. As far as I wrote above, that my Guild F47RC with D-Tar pickup has the better sound, this is after the expansion of the pickup now no longer the case, on the contrary, now the Larrivee has clearly the nose ahead.

Since then, I have been asked several times for the exceptionally good and natural sound of the guitar and asked for the "recipe". In terms of naturalness, dynamics and playback quality, the L-03RE is definitely the "queen" of my Acoustics.

No longer my "best buy". No. My "very best buy".

Is it really supposed to be a larriv e?

Rainer1707, 04.03.2014
Yes, it even has to be one!
The workmanship is great, really good craft. At my are no faulty or even poorly processed bodies to recognize. There is a single tiny irregularity in the wood on the fingerboard, but this is processed very neatly and placed in a place where it is not noticeable or disturbing. The subtle look suits me as an amateur, because I prefer to surprise.

Now the sound, yes the sound is just typical. He does not sound like Country and Western immediately, not Hillbilly. It just does not have what I call the dreadnought sound. The sound is warm and of its own color. Certainly also contributes to the rosewood body. Due to the strong, but not urgent, bass solo sets sound well emphasized at clear and brilliant heights.
Anyone who comes from the classical guitar will notice a clear difference when playing. Nevertheless, she plays easily and you get used to it quickly. This is also promoted by the balanced dimensions of the fingerboard and the frets.

For me it was an adventure to buy them, because unfortunately I had no opportunity to listen to the L-03RE live, but only digitally and from Konserve. The small sound samples on the product pages of the various providers on the Internet are not very helpful. I took the risk to order at Thomann and won everything. The Larrivée is not an everyday or ordinary guitar. She is something special.

I would also like to especially thank the Thomann team, which has really helped me with the selection, especially over the internet, and was a real help in my decision. Thank you.
