For individualists
Robert372, 09.04.2012
Since SV-1 88 is an instrument for individualists who want to play easily and directly to sounds. If you do not want to save any sounds as presets, you will not need to use them. Otherwise one must also work in here and rumwerkeln with PC editor, which however relatively simply and uncomplicated functions. From Korg there are the factory voices of the "new" SV-1 as backup, as well as two other sound sets for download on the Korg homepage.
The move on the SV-1 is easy. If you screw your own sounds, you can save them via USB and Editor as a file and send musicians / colleagues (very small files because only parameter settings are saved). This is a very nice thing!

The processing is impeccable up to 2 minor scratches (black button, and sound variation knob). The design in black is unbeatable chic and very retro-moderate. For this alone Korg should get a design award! Hats off. The rasterized rotary knobs are very heavy and robust. Only the master volume control is very spongy and makes a labile impression (exhausted!). The case is very sturdy and will probably surpass stage inserts over the next hundred years. The keyboard is very nice and also robust and belongs to the best what the market gives (since 88 keyboards like the Akai MPK 88 do not run). The SV-1 has a good and defined stroke behavior (the opposite of spongy). For my taste, however, the device is too hard, gym or not. Whether so much metal is really necessary? (Roland has also built lightweight and robust instruments with its PCR models).
The headphone output is very well arranged, so that also the cable does not disturb (for the common learning with teachers would be for piano students a further headphone connection on the right was excellent).

The sound is very good!
BUT: (original) Piano sounds are weak! What did Korg do there? If you are accustomed to beautifully sampled Steinways, you will be disappointed in the piano section (6 sound variations)! As a pianist you can only beat your hands over your head ...
The possibilities to create from the original piano sounds own variations (direction e-piano) are very good. Here, the individualist can let off steam.
Presets in E-Pianos and Co. have succeeded and the shaping of the same is fun.

A device for eternity if you know what you want. Especially the XLR connections are groundbreaking (and are missing for example with Clavia).

For all those who like to use original piano sounds, this device is not recommended! Retrofitting as with Clavia Nord is not. And since we are already in my recommendation: Who really worth on wings or Upright piano sounds, should absolutely reingucken at Clavia Nord. If priced also more expensive, the announced Nord Electro 4 HP offers a successful alternative. With countless piano and wing samples for reloading, Clavia offers an unbeatable combination of sound images on his homepage. The Electro 4 HP will definitely be my second or first stagepiano (Sorry, Korg).

Nevertheless, it remains to be said that Korg has created an excellent instrument for stage use, especially considering the price! Quick access, no menus and absolute control over all parameters are next to the sound its strengths.
