The hammer

Jürgen784, 19.07.2016
What should you write a lot.
Actually, I originally did not want to spend so much money. When the decision fell, a new electric piano needs to be, it should be originally a Yamaha CLP.

I wanted this time also what was neat and at the same time also optically attractive.
With Kawai CS-8 / CS-11 and CA-67 / CA-97 is supposedly everywhere the same keyboard mechanics and sound production.
The top models CS-11 / CA-97 only have the soundboard. This means that when playing with headphones there is no difference between the models, except for the optics.
It depends on what is important to you. Who on the outside not so much value can lay with the CA67 again 400 ¤ save. However, the high-gloss lacquer makes something already.
The feeling on the wooden keyboard is perfect - the sound is convincing - optics is very nice. Workmanship is good, only the pedalpanel is black matt foil - varnished, not high gloss, I do not quite understand.
The Oprik does not have a break.
And to the Kawai top devices, I could currently find nothing comparable in the market.
By the way:
The first DigitalPiano, which also smells like a wing, especially when you open the keyboard cover.
After I have the CS-8 now some time in use I would like to note a few trifles.

I bought the set with headphone and stool. The headphones I find for the price and quality class of the Kawai CS-8 definitely inappropriate. The sound quality of the listener would not be so bad, but since the shells are rigidly attached to the stirrup, it is almost impossible for me to put the headphones so that they are correctly attached to the ear.
With such an investment I would have expected that the headphone is quite adequate. The stool is a bit hard, but otherwise quite ok.

In terms of quality / price, probably the big winner of 2016!

As always, there is nothing wrong with the efficiency of Thomann: delivery on time (5 working days), perfect packaging for a 129 kg (!) Package, placed in front of my front door by a carrier who Did not want to help me go home. But I have nice neighbors.
Then we had to assemble the piano. You have to be two minimums. We stayed at 3 (my neighbors are really nice!). Count 2 hours.

The first thing that strikes: this piano is beautiful, its design is sleek and elegant. The shiny black gives it a luxurious appearance, embellishes it, sublime and allows it to adapt to all types of interiors. It is a success of aesthetics and it is realized that it was designed by piano lovers accustomed to make acoustic instruments.

But let us come to the most important: Touch and sound. Why did I choose the Kawai CS-8?

I spent weeks reading trials, reviews and reviews on the WEB. Besides, the CS-8 was not yet on sale.
My musician friends often have a Yamaha, or a Roland. I still own an old Roland KR-570 bought on its release, but still perfectly functional even if it was necessary to have several keys repaired.

So I tried some Roland and Yamaha CLPs with friends. And initially I was heading towards the Yamaha CLP 575, or even the 585 ... Then I came across a Kawai CA-95. And there I was seduced. I found the touch exceptional, and I preferred the sound of the Kawai compared to the Yamaha and the Roland.

Back to the Thomann site: more than CA-95, replaced by the CA-97. Discovery of the new CS-8 and CS-11, which are the "De Luxe" versions in gloss black of the CA-67 and CA-97.
I wanted a nice piece of furniture: it would be a "CS"
This piano is meant to take place in my office of about 25 m2, so the CS-8 should be ample enough in terms of sound power.

I plug the plug, I turn on the piano. I wait feverishly the few seconds needed for its initialization and we're off:

The touch is a bit heavy, heavier than on my quarter jump Sauter, but we get used very quickly. It really feels like playing on an acoustic piano. Nothing to do with my old arranger Roland KR-570 which does not serve me, besides, to make the accompaniment to amuse the gallery.
The sound is really good. All piano sounds are very realistic. Of course we are a little below the CA-97 - or CS-11 - but paying 1000 euros more for the wooden soundboard left me puzzled. Perhaps I would have reasoned differently if it had been intended for my drawing-room. To return to the sound, everything is there: the noise of the hammers, the noises of the strings if you push the sustain pedal, which varies according to the force with which you push it, the resonance of the strings, etc. And everything is configurable via the "Virtual Technician".

It comes with a very comprehensive documentation on the possibilities of the piano. For the moment, I have only gone through this fascicle. Not too much time, I prefer to play;)

There are also several booklets of scores (Bach, Beyer, Chopin, and so on ...).

To conclude, this piano will delight both experienced pianists and beginners who do not risk taking bad habits thanks to the exceptional touch of the keyboard.

I'm really happy with my purchase.
Bravo Kawai: it's a success. And thank you Thomann, you are pros!
