I have just received this multipad, but from my initial testing, it is great.
I am a drummer who seems to spend more time performing in front of a "Big Band" singing, rather than drumming!.
To explain, the band that I am with has another drummer.
We perform "Big Band" arrangements of popular numbers from Van Morrison, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin etc.
I felt that I could still add a bit more to the rhythm section. I had thought of buying a set of Conga drums but felt that I didn't won't to be carrying more gear around that necessary.
The answer was a KAT KTMP1 Multipad. I can mount it to a simple cymbal stand and use/play it standing as a conga player would. This is where I think that the only downside is.I am not sure that the supplied mounting bracket will survive "life -on-the-road". So I intend to buy the Millenium E-Drum Multi-Clamp. This is an all metal unit which should remove my doubts.
To return to the KTMP1, the range of "voices" is great (50) and will give me more variety than a set of Conga drums ever would!
I have tested the KTMP1 using both headphones and a PA system, and the sounds are great. Changing between "voices" is easy and the ability to "shape" the voices using: reverb, sensitivity (for each pad), tuning and individual volume (for each pad) is fantastic.
This isn't the cheapest multipad on the market. BUT as they say "You pay for quality".

Good value but sounds are not that great

TonyOsax, 08.06.2017
The KAT KTMP1 was definitely a good buy for me as it allowed me to explore a range of percussion instruments at a very reasonable price. It's compact and easy to use and I have no complalnts. However I didn't really have high expectations because it is very inexpensive and I have seen demos of Roland and Yamaha equivalent products which have much better sounds, but at many times the price. The KAT is cheap and cheerful and you have to accept it as such.

I'm not a drummer; what I really wanted was a pair of congas but I don't have the space for them and discovered the KAT as a potential alternative.

It's very easy to set up and the pads are very easy to play on. They work well with hands but they are not quite as responsive as real drums would be. Ergonomically it is very good. There is something that just feels right about it being round and it feels very natural to play. The pads fall under the hands very nicely and four is about the right number. I don't find myself accidently hitting the wrong one. A practical problem I have found is that the sound of your hands slapping the pads is very distracting. Wearing closed back headphones solves the problem.

The range of percussion instruments available is very good, which is a big plus. I had thought about getting bongos as well and they are available in the KAT. I can't comment about all the sampled instruments, but the congas, bongos and cowbell are definitely recognisable for what they are and perfectlt useable. They are not, however, top quality and so are a bit uninspiring.

If you want an inexpensive percussion pad with lots of sounds, this is a good choice. If you are looking for top notch sound quality you probably need to pay a lot more.
