Perfect strings!

Claus aus R., 17.02.2014
These Strings Sounds great on my Framus 60's Rockabilly Upright Bass.

They have a unique, non-metallic core which provide a gut-like tone without the cost or maintenance of gut strings. They hold their pitch well in climate and temperature changes, and most of their strings are equally suited for pizzicato (plucking) and slappin'.

They sound great acoustically, als amplified. I used an shadow Pick-up and for the slap tone the t.bone SC 300 microphone. Perfect strings!

Best new discovery!

23.07.2014
Rockabilly bassists are incredibly happy about everything you can mount, control and tune on the double bass. This also means choosing the right strings. This is not an unimportant topic, because, as you can easily see at the price, the investment of a string set is really no sugar licking and therefore requires a fundamental thought-out decision.

Gone are the years where one could buy with DM 60, - still quality strings. Under EUR 100, - nowadays you get nowhere near more good and durable double-bass strings. There are always the general questions on how these might sound, whether they are easy to play or whether they are not too fast at the violent slapping tear.

In the case of the Innovation Silver or Goldenslaps, I can say with a clear conscience that the risk of acquiring was well worth it! With around 140, - one gets a set of nylons strings, which:

- excellent and easy to play,
- Absolutely unstable
- Hold for a long time
- Have a balanced, rockabilly sound.

Depending on the double bass processing and wood, the innovation silver- or goldenslapps in the acoustic manner do not really sound very tingling. You can see a bit of "gummy", rather unstable sound at the first moment. This is at least with my Thomann plywood double bass so. But the bass is first stuck at the system, and if you have a good pick up, a nice fat bass sounds.

From the strength of the game, the silver and gold slaps are actually identical. Personally, I believe that the Silverslaps are a bit easier to play. Can also be imagination. The actual difference is probably simply in its color (silver and gold colors)?

Comparison with other strings like zbsp:

- Rotosound:
Equivalent to the game strength. The Rotosound are possibly a bit lighter, whereby the sound of the Rotosound occurs very "eiernd" although it reminds strongly of bowel strings. The Silver / Goldenslaps have in any case a more constant tone and a longer sustain.

- Presto:
Although the Presto is very responsive and has a balanced sound due to its steel core, even the "lightest" set (Ultra light tension) still has too much "strength" and must be torn with much more power than the Silver / Goldenbulls. This can be felt strongly on the wrist and forearm? "Ultralight" is in my opinion therefore the wrong advertising message.

- Good-a-Like nylon strings
The gut-a-likes (as the name implies) strongly resemble the sound of gut strings: a short, violent, dull, deep basestone that quickly decreases in sustain. The strings are essentially damn thick! Thick enough to help one or the other saddle and bridge with the file to bring it through the notches at all. With some mechanics one could smoothly also problems to get them at all through the threading hole or around the turning bolt. The playability is incredibly light, so you partially think of holding a few butter sticks in your fingers
In most cases, the E-string is so soft that it is hardly perceived in the "plucked" state, or almost unplayable because you have to tear it about 20cm wide in order to make it vibrate at all. Connected to the amp, the high-frequency slap sounds surprisingly loud! The Gut-a-likes are therefore a gradual migration between sound taste and playability.

- Dr.Thomastik-Infeld / "Spirocore" steel strings
Steel does not always have to be "hard". In the "Spirocore" one still obtains a certain lightness which still seems pleasant. Of course, steel strings have a considerably long sustain, which is important depending on the style of music. The Rockabilly is not always (or not often) necessary. Also, the Spirocore sound always very "metallic" shortly after the set-up, and generally have a large spectrum of frequency reproduction, so that also the highs through the slap are strongly applied. This may not be everyone's taste. The Silver / Goldenslaps offer a good ratio of easy playability, be it with the slapping, as well as with the plucking. Strangely, spirocore steel strings are often torn, as are the silver / gold slap. To be honest, I've never been an innovation silver / goldenslap string for more than 6 years!

All in all: the innovation Silver- or Goldenslaps are a very good choice when it comes to sound, playability and longevity.
