Really not bad!

Denis656, 17.06.2018
It's been 35 years since I owned a Fender Jazz Bass with a small break for 15 years during which I stopped playing.
In short I took over again and finally after a few years I wanted novelty, another sound, another instrument.
A precision for the sound would have tempted me, but I think I got tired of Fender (too expensive) too. There are many copies that would have done the trick, and rummaging through the shelves I discovered this Talman 100.

I went to the Ibanez site where there is a demo video, and also youtube. It has a sound, especially for its precision neck pickup with bass and deep midrange. It's not a Fender Precision but frankly it has a sound.
This sound, by the way, is super clean, accurate, with the headphones (while the deep bass easily saturate the headphones, without detracting from the sharpness).

The settings are pretty simple, a scale for the microphone + a volume. A second double button allows the boost of bass and treble.
It should not be too much force on these boosts, to keep a natural sound. By pushing the bass boost we arrive in distortion mode on the Mi, and for highs pushed it becomes very metallic.
In short for me I found the bass with the sound, can the one I was looking for ...

Side finishes is not bad for the body, just a small mark on the pick guard, but for the rest everything is nickel, buttons, lacquer, adjustment between the elements.
The only dissatisfaction comes from the handle, well I'm a little quibble, but it's still the most important part of a guitar.
As I said, I spent countless hours on a Fender JB, so as soon as I put on it, I immediately felt the differences.

- First thing, but that I knew the handle is 41 and some nut (I think it's the same on a Precision), against 38 for a JB. I have little fingers and the difference is sensitive. This is not unplayable, far from it, but it requires more effort in this part of the handle. Less comfortable.
The width to the body is idem JB.
On the other hand the handle is less thick than on a Precision, and it seems to me also less thick side body than on the JB. Access to acute is facilitated.

- What makes me rightly moan are the frets and the edge of touch.
The edge of the frets is not nickel, it hangs, light, but it's not clean. Given the price of the machine, the adjustment is a bit sloppy, or the frets are installed already cut and not retouched manually. It would therefore be necessary to take them back for more comfort. Especially since, always with my little hands, the edge of touch along the handle has a ridge a bit too sharp and therefore aggressive at the level of the first phalanges. Should round this area on my JB does not pose a problem especially as on this Fender there is a very slippery white plate that hides the edge of the frets.

- There is also a small polishing defect on the back of the handle on the side of the keys, normally we do not put the thumb there, but it is at the limit.

To finish with the reproaches, the battery box opens with a screwdriver, and do not forget to remove the jack after each use to cut the juice. This is my first active bass, I do not know how it is on others, but a simple micro switch would have been more fun.

I will stop there for tonight, frankly for 200 euros, there is no crying, value for money / sound etc. is at the top. There is also the opportunity to see what the Squier Jaguar are worth at equivalent prices, since this Ibanez is a largely inspired copy.

I must admit that I've had a week, I was wondering if I was going to keep it (we have to get used a little) and finally after a few hours of use with the tags on the handle, I found that my new mistress fucked really well and I have not replayed on the Fender cuckolded thoroughly.

Finally, we often read that a cheap instrument is good to start, bin there is bullshit. While there are small details in the neck that could have been better, but clearly it is largely the same if I have nothing of a virtuoso.

I'm even wondering if I do not resell my JB 1978 (sunburst I never liked the color, but bought used in 83 I had no choice), to take a new Squier of the good color instead.

I would never have expected such quality for so little money.

Do you want a bass, but you do not have much money? Are you afraid that you get a poor quality instrument? In general, you do not know if you decide between this or another bass ?. All of the above was happening to me, and believe me this is the best choice I've made in a long time.

I did not have much money, nor did I want to risk buying a second-hand bass or a cheap brand for fear of messing up. After much searching with this Ibanez model and decided to try luck.

You have quite a few videos in you tube, so there is not much to say. To point out that: it has an active eq, which gives a lot of versatility and helps to clean the sound a lot; the materials it is made of are impressively better than I expected, it feels like you're playing a bass from a much higher range; the pads have a fairly clean and defined sound. I would try to make some mistake, but I really do not see any.

I recommend it to everyone, this is the money that I have invested in a long time.
