Hotone Xtomp
02.09.2016
Xtomp is like a revelation to me! I am the kind who loves to try new gadgets and especially love potential hidden in product like this - literally an empty box ready to be filled in by enormous set of famous stomp pedals, boxes, amps, fx..
First thing to know - I wasn't sure if the loaded algorithms stay in the device even after it is switched off. They do! That means - you'll have to spend some time filling it only once and then switching the algorithms lasts a few seconds - it depends how quick your fingers can touch a display of your phone/ipad. The loading itself is really rapid.
Every algorithms available so far is so inspirative - I didn't believe the reviews on Youtube much but the truth is - its much better than I expected ( I am running it directly before my Hughes Kuttner Tubemeister 18 and in the loop of EHX Silencer to erase noise from pick ups and loud pedals like Big Muff emulation ).
I must say H9 by Eventide didn't impress me that much even though it was much much more expensive with all the in-app purchases. ( The operation is easier, looks of the app is much appealing, sound is on the same comparable level. )
People frequently express their doubts - even the company name Hotone is spelled sometimes like Hoe Tone but the ones who try it, change their opinion! So far no payment for provided algorithms and if I count correctly - more than 70 algorithms up to day free of charge. And I do believe that a portion o 6-10 new appear soon and later again and later again... Always something to look forward to..

Great ninja-pedal for all purpose - can't go wrong.
Misza, 24.05.2018
This pedal is a great tool for everyone that need to save space on their pedalboard, everyone that makes frequent changes on their pedalboard or everyone that wants to taste different flavors of classic amps or effects without the necessity of buying each and every one of them.
The idea is splendid - you buy a device hidden in a neat stompbox enclosure. The device is programmable and a multitude of programs is already available. The database grows on a regular basis.
The sound is splendid. I compared different tubescreamer variations to the ones I already own as well as the EP booster and BB preamp, Boss DS-1, Boss BD-2,.... . My ears couldn't tell the difference. It's also a great cabinet simulator (if you want to go direct) and amp simulator (provided you plug it into the power amp).

It's a real swiss-army-knife of a pedal featuring many useful stompbox programs including: preamps, boosters, compressors, overdrives, distortions, fuzzes, modulation effects, reverbs, delays, noise suppressors/noise gates and a looper!

Did I mention it's stereo? :)

There are two downturns, though:
1. The speed of the program (pedal) change is variable, so I wouldn't recommend changing the pedal on the Xtomp live.
2. The pedal draws a substantial amount of current, so you have to keep that in mind.

Minor flaws, if you ask me :) but because of then, I'm not giving the Hotone Xtomp 5 stars in all categories. There's still some area for improvement, be it quite small.

Offers a lot, but could be better
Mikkalys, 12.06.2018
Got this thing a while ago now, making the review after using it for a while.

First thing, the button fell off as i took it out of the box. Not sure who to blame, maybe someone at Thomann was jerking with it before sending it to me or it was just made like that. So I had to glue the button back on. Other than that, no problems.

Some sounds are GREAT, but many are just HORRIBLE. I use it mostly for effects or ampsims into amp head fx return into a real cabinet. The ampsim cabinets sound bad, but that's nothing new.

Great thing about it is new sounds every month, which are FREE! That is good.

Bad thing is you can not make your own chain of effects or a preset or combine them as you please.

Overally, I recommend to people who don't have the money to spend on 100 pedals. This thing has 300 sounds and more, so it's worth the money.

great for the studio

Had this pedal for about a week now and using it as a guitar amp simulator to get the tones that my fender super champ XD cant for example Marshall and Vox tones. I'm really impressed with the packaging that it came in, the box resembles the kind of box you'd expect a top end phone to come in big improvement over what i'm used too i.e. a cardboard box with info about the pedal printed on it. the only gripes iv got is when its emulating a Marshall JCM 800 is that the volume isn't as loud as the rest the volume on this particular preset could be louder also when its emulating an amp (any amp not just the JCM 800) if the pedal is turned off no signal comes through the right output (witch is a problem considering that the right hand channel also includes a cabinet simulation as well) the solution that i have come up with for this is to use an ABY pedal right after letting me switch between the right and left channel which also works as a cab sim on/off switch
