Great gadget with superb tone
08.02.2017
I've bought this pedal because two main features: its small form factor and the flexible choice of functions.
Wah and Volume pedals are well known for their dimensions and their difficult integration with full pedalboards; this HoTone little gem facilitates its integration due to a cleaver design. The materials are rock solid and the feeling with the pedal is good. After a quick period of learning, even the player used to have a regular sized pedal under his feet can easily pull great sounds out of this effect.
Thus, what appears to be a con at a first glance, quickly becomes an opportunity and you can leave the wah in place in your permanent setup in your living room.
What has been the most appealing feature for me is the possibility to select different roles of this pedal: besides the wah effect, with the actuation of a linear side switch, one can set the pedal to be an effective volume unit, also selecting the volume range by means of a potentiometer, or use it as an expression pedal in association with a stereo cable. I do not used the Soul Press as an expression pedal yet but the volume function is smooth and very effective.
I never considered buying a wah pedal before because it doesn't meet my musical style but this product is usable even when not used as a wah: volume is far more useful to me!

At the end, my overall opinion of this swiss knife pedal, mainly considering the quality of its frequency sweep range as a Wah and taking into account the price, is that it is worth having one unit of this in your pedalboard!

Not good for accurate parameter adjustments
the J. M., 08.07.2019
I bought this pedal to use as an expression pedal to control several parameters of my MIDI setup. Upon opening the box I found the pedal to be well built and working fine, however when I set it up in expression pedal mode and hooked it up to my computer it did not perform how I wanted it to. The increase in the MIDI CC output value (1-127) is not at all linear as you move the pedal form down to up, but rather almost nothing happens for a while, then suddenly the value jumps up to almost the maximum at one point. I used the pedal to control the gain and equalizer of my setup and therefore need to be able to do some fine adjustments on the go. With this pedal I was always jumping between minimum and maximum gain, having a very hard time to setup a value in the middle.
I also had problems with turning the pedal off when stepping on it too hard (eg when cranking it for a solo) which then sets it to minimum value. Kindof a downer in that moment.

Dirty wah
Archion, 17.05.2020
The review is mainly about the wah portion of the pedal, because that's what I have mainly used it for. First of all, I really like it when such a small pedal still has the battery compartment. Yes, some people don't like to carry their whole pedalboards with them, especially when there are only 2 or 3 of them. You can stick this and a couple more pedals very easily in your gigbag. I've been in quite many jam sessions this way and carrying such a setup is really comfortable. If you want to be environment friendly, you can always buy rechargeable 9V batteries.
The sounds I get with this pedal can be described as dirty wah. At least this pedal didn't play nice with the clean amps, most of them. When I finally found an amp that paired nicely with it while remaining clean, another problem became apparent. The pedal, after a couple of years of use, started crackling. But overall still quite a nice and small pedal.

Value for money pedal !
konbour, 29.11.2020
I got this pedal, as I wanted a volume pedal as small as possible to fit my already stuffed pedalboard. It does the job great, and not to mention that the 3 different modes that it has (expression, wah, volume), gives you great versatility as a professional musician (for example, you could be asked to play a gig where you can use your wah ). As a professional musician, I cannot tell difference between this pedal and my expensive ernie ball vp. Would definately recommend it !
