This model, recommended by a guitars teacher's band, kept everything I had promised Thomann's advertising. The solid cedar top and the rosewood body give it a balanced sound. Their neck shape and strings make them playable well. Bundrein, she is also obendrein. A gigbag in attractive quality is offered by Thomann with only 1 euro extra charge the same (bundle purchase # 83 note!). The SE III is also based on a Höfner HZ 27 (349.00 Euro Thomann Prize), with the difference that its body is matt oiled and the neck, in contrast to the HZ 27, has been slightly modified.

And since we would then unfortunately also with a thick BUT, which in my evaluation of this guitar also leads to a considerable devaluation in the point of processing and obendrein costs a smooth star in the overall evaluation: There were from the beginning problems with the whole mechanics of this guitar At the low E, but also above all D and G-string. The mechanics cracked when turning the whirls, which came neither from the saddle nor from the bridge, but obviously from the direction of the worm wheels or tuning axles of the guitar. Also a decrease of the wings (pronounced vortexes) and easy lubrication of the snails did not help here. In addition, the swirls looked quite cheap, actually more like plastic instead of wood, despite their supposed "surface grain". After the Thomann-Werkstatt-Service on this day apparently wg. But I found the guitar really so appealing that I did not want to send it back immediately, I took direct contact with the company Schaller. I thought the mechanics of this "Thomann-Hausgitarre" as Schaller HG-1 with ebony wings (single price after about 85 Euro) to recognize and wanted really only a advice from the Schaller service, whether I the annoying "creaking" And turning on the vertebrae could also fix themselves.

Once in the conversation, Fa. Schaller wanted a photo of my Höfner by e-mail. One "identified" the mechanics at least in the photo then also as "original Schaller HG-1" and offered me immediately a free examination and possible revision. I had probably seized her by her honor when I told her about "clearly ill-processed Schaller mechanics". This is one as customer of Schaller yes also now really not used. The Schaller mechanics on my old Fender Stratocaster have over 35 years on the hump and still work as on the first day. So I built the mechanics of the courtiers (on each side a coherent three-movement movement), which was very easy - you just loosen 8 small wooden screws and, of course, the strings - and sent everything to Fa. Schaller.

Just one day later, Schaller told me that it was obviously a "China copy" of their high-quality HG-1 mechanics. The swirls are made of plastic, not as in the original ebony. Some snail axles were so imprecise that they had to sneak as they were playing. Otherwise, this mechanics looked like the original. Then came the pleasing part of the Schaller message: They would, in exceptional cases, exchange it for an original HG1 and kept the "China model", so to speak, as a "reminder." As shown in Fig. I agreed, of course, and thanked me warmly for this great service.

Conclusion:
If one were to theoretically still the Schaller quality mechanics would add, this "Thomann-Hausmodell" price with then about 450.00 instead of 370.00 euro but in a slightly higher league and would be the price-performance ratio only conditionally recommendable. The Yamaha C80, which is about half as expensive (unfortunately only very moderately processed) sounds similar, by the way. However, the SE III plays lighter and has a much more important overall effect. In contrast to the annoying cheap mechanics, the materials for body and neck of the courtiers seem to be really high-quality and, as advertised, also manufactured in Germany. I will keep my SE III now in any case. With the original Schaller tuners, it also has a good price-performance ratio and is then a real recommendation.

I would like to ask as intereressent before the purchase, what mechanics were mounted. Perhaps it was only a one-time slip-up of the guitar manufacturer, or, in the worst case, a secret, unannounced cost-cutting measure in the last series to keep the seemingly quite cheap price. Who knows. Before further attempts at the Schaller-Service "China-Nachbauten" against original Schaller mechanics, I would however advise against. I believe, so what works only once a year and indeed on Nikolaustag ;-). In such a case, therefore, prefer to go directly to Thomann, return within the scope of the return law, or at the same time consider another model.

It has an almost perfect ending and details for a guitar of this price. The Cedar top is very well finished and is of a very good quality and selection as well. The rosetta is a bit different from the photo but very tasteful, and integrates perfectly with the satin top.
The most important thing: the sound ... once I had it tuned (the pegs are acceptable) playing for a while it is perceived that it has very powerful bass with good response. The treble are a little more laborious, but always a pleasant sound.
