First impression: HB has learned

Werner856, 17.05.2013
With some delay, the HB TE-52 arrived (it can happen in a trip around half the world before, so is OK for me). According to my previous experience with a HB TE-20BK as well as a HB TE-40TBK (readable here), I was curious about the top model of the HB-tele-series.

First impression: HB has learned.
Processing: immaculate (honest).
Optics: very appealing (how far this changes with the years, I do not know)
Basic setting: according to voices the instrument was playable
Hardware: OK, only the tuners are differently heavy, but tunable.
Strings: According to the supporters d'Addarios are on it, so for the time being no exchange
Sound: Tele-like, foam-braked, some stratitis, with a lot of potential for improvement because of too high PU

Second impression (after working with the instrument):
All the screws were neatly tightened
Head saddle: good notched, no rework required
Adjustment: excellent (factory setting !!!)
Bunching: very good (no rework !!!)
Strings: was for me too high, was reduced by a good 1.5mm, again 0.5mm would be without rattling in it
Octave purity and bundle purity: Telematic, so never 100% clean, but very useful factory setting. By the reduction of the string position I had to adjust the bridge of course.
PU setting: the basic setting was too high for stratitis (relatively thick) for single coils. After the adjustment comes now a nice, well-balanced telephonic sound, but without sharpness (typical Wilkinsons). If you are on extreme twang, you must exchange the PU. Logically, the output was somewhat lower after adjustment.
Tuner: I'll probably have to relubricate, in order to equalize the differences in the runtime (during the exchange). But no reason for exchange, they do their job well.
Side noise: Single coils, a little noise is always there. On the occasion of the first string exchange, I will do this by retrospectively shielding the electric fans.
Playability: according to my taste, no complaints. The neck is very pleasant.

Conclusion:
GOOD: HB has learned, the instrument came for the first time with a usable factory setting. Great praise for the basic work and execution quality. This praise is also without regard to the price!

CRITICS: PU setting. At least the universally available principles of PU attitudes should be taken into account, especially when no PPs have been installed. This can not be excused by the price. For 1 point deduction.
And better shielding would not be a mistake either.

Perhaps I will at this point later a experience rezension attach. The instrument is worth it. It will certainly also serve on stage.

Update March 2014:
Admittedly, the instrument was played relatively little, mainly not to endanger the beautiful performance, so the original strings are still a good deal. The TE-52 NA has developed considerably clearer twang sounds than before, and the overall sound is more subtle and finer than initially , Without having turned on any screw, or changed something. In this discipline, she gets a lot closer to the original. From the sound 4 stars were now 4.5. I'm curious to see if this development continues.
This is also the difference to expensive instruments: their wood has been pre-dried for long periods of time, the sound of which is instantaneous, is stable and hardly changes. The value for money does not have such features, of course, but can become better with time (but must not). Nevertheless: comes time, comes sound.
Good for me. Overall score: 4.5 matured stars

Update December 2014:
Because the base is right, I gave the instrument a set of Fender '51 NoCaster pickups. A successful investment. If you are interested in the experience report, you can read the review in the section pickup. From my perspective, the Gtarre has now reached its highest level of development. Perfect.

Harley Benton TE-52 Vintage - fits nicely!

Frank J. 212, 04.08.2012
Obviously arrived - Sound ehr a little thin (In the beginning). For this I find from the wood a beautiful guitar which after the exchange of the pickup which I made by Nocaster 51 front and back now SUPER sounds. The original tuners do well as well your service, however, I have a couple of graded clusters on it and then the Harley Benton sounded a bit better. Also the bridge was exchanged for one with brass riders and the string attachments were made into the body. The response of the guitar is now the hammer.

I personally think that one for the money no caster may not expect :-) However for beginners with a little craft knowledge or even without is good. The experiement I received was definitely worth it. My recommendation also for the cheap Fender which should be so synonymous in the kind still a little to be boiled up. But think then there comes every aspirant himself, who wants to save one or the other dime.
