High-tech meets old-school craftsmanship

Traditional-looking guitar in front, high-tech instrument in the back: The Harley Benton HBO-600SB combines state-of-the-art materials with the expertise of historic luthiers. Even back then, they knew that a rounded back sounds different from a conventional sounding-box – not louder, admittedly, but softer and more resonant. Round-backed instruments made of wood are of course very costly to manufacture – luckily however, these can be made from modern ABS. Add a pickup, and you get a stage-worthy guitar of a very special kind.

Crisp highs and a compressed tone

With its rounded back and spruce top finished in high-gloss sunburst, the Harley Benton HBO-600SB has its own unique tonal personality. When played acoustically, the shallow bowl delivers a subtle-sounding tone, which is focused through the central sound hole, and the X-braced spruce top adds crisp and slightly compressed highs. The pickup is housed beneath the bridge saddle, and the output can be finely tuned as desired by adjusting the bass, mid, and treble frequencies. The mahogany neck features a dark roseacer fingerboard and, with a nut width of just 43 mm and comfortable C-profile, is shaped to fit the player’s hand perfectly.

For fans both present and future

The characteristics of the Harley Benton HBO-600SB naturally make it ideal for the stage. This type of round-back guitar has a dedicated fan community – and no matter what the style, they use these instruments anywhere and everywhere. The HBO-600SB gives round-back guitar afficionados on a limited budget access to the instrument of their dreams. However, its potential is fully realised when used on stage, where the guitar can easily be amplified to thunderous volume levels and played with unrivalled comfort using a strap thanks to its shallow rounded body.

About Harley Benton

Since 1998, the Harley Benton brand has been catering for the needs of numerous guitarists and bassists. In addition to an extensive range of stringed instruments, Thomann's house brand also offers a wide choice of amplifiers, speakers, effect pedals, and other accessories. In total, the range includes over 1,500 products. Built by established names in the industry, all Harley Benton products combine quality and reliability at attractive and affordable prices. The continuous expansion of the range ensures that Harley Benton always provides new, exciting, and innovative products that keep players perfectly in tune with the musical world, day after day.

Refreshingly different

The Harley Benton HBO-600SB is a real workhorse, designed for the rigours of everyday use – preferably on stage or in the rehearsal room, but it is equally at home at youth club meetings or in the pedestrian precinct. Despite its shallow body, the sound of the HBO-600SB cuts through astonishingly well even when played acoustically. Guitarists will definitely shine with this instrument, which looks distinctly different to run-of-the-mill acoustic guitars.

A
Affordable usable electro-acustic
Anonymous 24.03.2017
I am primarily an electric guitar player but it's not always handy to plug in everything and emulate acoustic sound with effect pedal. For this reason I was looking for an affordable acoustic guitar that I could just pick up and play while in the same time I can plug in to get real acoustic sound through my amp (I like to record acoustic back track on my looper and then use electric to solo).

This guitar came as great solution to my requirements. The features for that price are great and it sounds solid.

Use: Everyday playing at home

Pros:
- looks very good (especially from distance where you can't see small imperfections)
- sounds decent
- very affordable price

Cons:
- it came with some small imperfections (don't bother me but they might bother some)
- strings it came with look like they started to rust a little bit
- the neck was very dry (can be easily fixed with some lemon oil)

All in all I think it's a very good guitar for the price. Sounds good both plugged in or not. I would definitely recommend this for beginner wanting electro-acoustic or if classic dreadnought is too thick or if you just don't want to spend too much until you see if you can get into guitar playing.

L
Great for Beginners
Loukoil 06.03.2019
I bought this guitar because I am interested in buying an ovation and since this guitar has a similar body I wanted to see how it feels. Firstly, i recommend you to also buy high quality strings because the stock ones are cheap and after one week of playing they needed change. Moreover, the action was very high on the instrument and needed the appropriate set-up and the frets needed polishing, by the way the above mentioned things are not a great if you consinder the money you are paying.
As far as the fretboard and the neck are concerned, they just feel amazing in your hands! The neck is very smooth to play as well as the fretboard itself! Finally, the body sits well and it is very comfortable.
Long story short, it is a great for beginners and with a few adjustments it can be a very enjoyable guitar to play with.

Very good guitar

This guitar has a very clear sound and is of a great quality it is a great guitar and well worth buying it comes with great action and set up and is perfect for both beginners and more experienced players. Also the guitars pickup system is great and its very straightforward and great to use.

the guitar came with a great finish and still now looks really good, when plugged into to the amplifier it also sounds fantastic and is the best acoustic guitar and can even rival some of my electric guitars through an amp.its very easy to restring, it stays in tune as the machine heads are of a good quality. the design is slim but makes about the same volume as a dreadnought guitar when played acoustically.

A
Nice and cheap.
Andrew261 10.02.2015
Again, Thomann did a great job of posting quickly and packing securely.
The guitar itself is, on the whole, fine. The finish on the body is colourful and 'practically' unblemished, there was a slight discrepancy on the decoration around the sound hole but, on a guitar this cheap, who cares?
The neck could could have done with a better finish, a little 'dry', needs more 'slip'. The rear of the guitar is thin but sturdy.
The guitar produces a reasonably decent sound, after changing the cheap strings, and the pick-up is responsive. The electronics give a decent amount of control over the sound allowing a sweet mellow or sharp sound.
All in all, for the price, it is a fine guitar, there are better, but they are a lot more expensive!
