Solid wood – solid tone
If there is one phrase that is sure to get acoustic guitarists’ attention, then it has to be “all-solid” – after all, guitars made completely from solid wood are synonymous with a lively, characterful tone. The downside, however, is that such guitars usually come with an equally luxurious price tag as well. With the CLD-40SM-CE SolidWood, however, Harley Benton is now proving that that doesn’t have to be the case. This dreadnought features a top, back, and sides made from solid mahogany and comes with modern features.

Equipped for full control
The dreadnought is one of the largest acoustic guitar shapes, and its sound has earned it great popularity. With the CLD-40SM-CE SolidWood, Harley Benton has added a cutaway (for unrestricted access to the upper register) and a Fishman pickup system (for unrestricted access to the bigger stages). The solid mahogany top – with its warm tone and characteristic mid-range emphasis – is the central element of the guitar’s sound, while the solid mahogany back and sides provide a precise, controlled resonance. These characteristics suit the Fishman Presys II system perfectly, which means that amplifying this guitar is no problem whatsoever.

A feast for the senses
The Harley Benton CLD-40SM-CE SolidWood is clearly an instrument for discerning musicians who know how to get the most out of every note they play – and of course for those who want to do that AND are looking for a guitar that helps them every step of the way. The mahogany neck with its ebonol (composite) fingerboard has a slightly more generous nut width of 44.5 millimetres and offers enough space for more refined techniques like fingerpicking and Bluegrass flatpicking – and this guitar really comes into its own with styles like these thanks to its full-sounding, punchy tone.
