Hammond SK1 B-Stock

B-Stock with full warrantySlight traces of use

Stage 61-Key KeyboardThe SK series represents a new generation of Hammond stage Keyboards. In addition to a proven 2-Vase III organ tone generation and the Vox and Farfisa organ and sacral organ now also has a wider and more flexible range of additional sounds. This rather vintage oriented sounds is fully convincing in quality and assertiveness. The operating concept is kept clear and simple. The important parameters such as equalizer, overdrive effect intensity and reverb are adjustable via separate controls, all deeper settings are defined through the display. Despite the high production quality, the weight of the instruments was kept low (even the 2-manual version weighs only 16 kg), so the Hammond SK is interesting for mobile use.

From Native Instruments B4 to Hammond SK1
Stefan718, 26.12.2011
4 years ago I had a Midikeyboard (CME UF6) added to the NI B4 to play. The transport of a laptop and the wiring took me quite quickly the fun of the PC-Hammond. In June 2011, Hammond had a new piece of jewelery the SK-1 with the probably best advertising medium which can be in the Hammond area ... Mr. Jon Lord himself.

Handiness:
A lightweight 7kg can be transported to any gig. Therefore no cranes are necessary. The Rockbag RB 21613 from thomann completes the mobility of small B3.

Service:
The SK1 has a very nice interface. The volume controls and the drawbars can be operated without any problems. The 61 Waterfall buttons provide a great feel. However, for my feeling the key noise just a bit too loud in the fast game.

Features:
The USB port is for me the highlight of the SK1. Firmware updates with new sounds and improvements are now possible. In combination with the music player, a jam session with the favorite Mp3s is nothing else. Whether it's reverb in a variety of ambient settings, overdrive or the percussion section, everything is there to give the Hammond sound its special touch. The split function and the possibility to play your own bass run, increase the joy of playing totally.

Sound:
As the SK1 builds on the soundengine of the XK3-c leaves them no wishes open. The sound can be tuned and tuned down to the smallest detail, a pleasure for connoisseurs. The pipe organ is a highlight. The Farfisa and Vox simulations meet the sound excellently. After all the praise now a criticism. The only available additional sounds are those of the pianos and the e-pianos. The blower sets do not even approach the sound of my Yamaha PSR-8000 ran and is now really not the latest. I recommend that you create your own presets and get to the device, because they are not really exhilarating.

The Leslie was first used at Child in Time and I thought I'm in the Hammond Heaven :-) The Leslie is breathtaking. It's the best I've ever heard of a B3 clone.

Conclusion: I have not regretted the purchase. A great device that produces the classic Hammond sound, is easy to carry and is even expandable through the USB interface. This purchase is only recommended.

Finally, packed Hammond Sound + additional instruments packed in 7.5kg.
Matthias537, 14.09.2012
I've been cheating for quite a while with the (the?) SK1. As much as I love my Hammond xk3c system, but the annoying dismantling and building plus the not light weight make it not easy to spontaneously participate in a session. The north C1 / C2 were not considered due to missing drawbars. Meanwhile, the drawbars but I have it is also important to be able to transmit sounds 1: 1 from the xk3c. Third, I do not like the keyboard haptics of the Nords. So now to the (to) SK1:

Sound:
There were no surprises at the Hammond Sound. That sounds easy as it must sound. The organ sounds with the sounds transferred by the xk3c absolutely identical - except for the Overdrive, there must be a little more "screw" until it fits, because the SK1 does not have a tube. Nevertheless, the Overdrive fits. By the way, a few Jon Lord Sounds (RIP) are also programmed. Those who know "when a blind man cries" will also find and recognize this sound. Who knows, Jon has made advertising during his lifetime for the (the) SK1, perhaps he is also the sound programmers to the side.

The additional sounds are also absolutely useful. Prima ePianos and also great Grand Pianos, D6, CP70 everything there! For the strings, I want to highlight the Solina sounds, which are just as you know and love (or hates). I think it is definitely great. Rounding out is the whole of a few usable synth pads and solo sounds and here we come now also to the biggest drawback - missing Pitch-Bend / Mod-Wheels. A Synthsolo without these playing aids is not conceivable. The iPhone / iPod app ModWheels can help.

Service:
A bit of getting used to is the fact that for each sound a separate Leslie can be stored. With the xk3c it is a Leslie for all sounds (one has also not 23 different Leslies to its B3 depend ....). After I have no need to change the Leslie every time I make a new sound, I have made a basic template sounds (888000000), which I then copy.

Also not easy to understand is the assignment of the Extrasounds to the Favorites. Unfortunately, the manual is not very helpful in solving the problem.

I would have liked to have a second set of drawbars, the switch between upper and lower man can be forgotten, which leads to unexpected results when one plays with the Zugriegeln. (This is missing, by the way, the Hammond-typical armor).

All in all, but still a really good keyboard. Five stars would have given for a second drawbar set and mod / pitch playing aids.
