Class music instrument with small weaknesses
Stephan Janson, 13.12.2010
It was a long way to get the considerable budget ready to buy me this instrument. I have pretty much tested every price class and brand at Melodikas. Like all melodic instruments, this instrument also has the typical harmonica / accordion sound and can be played easily over the very palpable keyboard.

The keyboard responds quickly and directly. I like the feeling softer pressure point against cheaper melodies. Of course, a big hit is a big hit. The size of the keys is, however, typically not for "Wurschtfinger" but due to the fact that this is a transportable instrument is absolutely justified.

A built-in passive pickup with volume control, three selectable mouthpieces and the possibility to offer a guitar strap (unfortunately not included) flatter the package as well as the practical softcase and the mandatory cleaning cloth.

The processing is perfect. The supplied mouthpieces and hoses are all well-processed and you can decide whether semi-flexible, fully flexible hose (both especially for two-handed play) or the simple mouthpiece as suitable for the own playing style.

The reeds react quickly and remain in good mood, even in the case of temperature fluctuations, in contrast to favorable melodic models.
Sounds can be drawn easily and fluttering effects etc. are pleasantly easy and organic in the game.

From the sound one must say the melody was not just reinvented but rather in their characteristic more refined. One can clearly hear the stronger voices in the deep position, and the fine but tongues in the air. Thus, the bass sounds clear and the height almost flute-like, delicate with rich overtone. Altogether, the instrument unfortunately lacks the full volume of a more powerful sound body. The natural sound is thus pleasant, but due to the range of the tone, it makes you want to be more deep in the middle to develop more warmth and character. This is a fundamental problem with all melodies of all price classes.
Here, the possibility of manipulating the sound via the outputted sound signal helps:

The pickup sound is amazingly natural. I myself tried to mute different melodies and even with 2 internal microphones it was difficult to define each zone clearly. But the Hammond 44 was professionally worked. All pitch ranges are equally represented and correspond to the natural sound. The output signal is expected to be quiet as with an electric guitar. An active pickup variant with sound control would be desirable.

The price-performance ratio is disputable. For the money I would expect an active pickup with sound control or at least a cassotto-similar variant with more warmth in the natural sound. On the other hand, I have not played a better melody so far and the possibilities that reveal the above features make the overall package as appropriate.

The instrument is all in all highly recommended but you have to have a few dimes ready to come to the benefit of this transportable wind-key Boliden to come.

An instrument of truth
CarlosBoco, 02.10.2012
It was time to have a real melodic!
Construction: metal body, wood finishes and keys and plastic mouth. Solid, strong and well assembled. Nothing to do with the melodic plastic that was on the market.

Sound: thanks to its 44 keys has a very wide palette of sounds. In bass record it resembles a clarinet, and is ideal to accompany. In mediums and treble sounds already melodic but with a lot of body, resembling an accordion, ideal for making melodies and improvising.

Expresividad: for the key players is a new world. The expressive possibilities of the wind instruments (linked, chopped, vibrato, estacato ....) mixed with the keys give an enriching result. Aside, being able to participate with the body accustomed to being behind the piano is very rewarding.

Sound: plugg and play. A jack already playing. This is the best, neither micros nor strange things. The internal microphones have an amazing quality, and they take out the sound equally and these in treble or bass. It also carries its volume control. just great.

Believe me, aunq the price is high, if you want to play a melodica really worth it, is another world.
