many arguments ... maybe too many
16.08.2016
This book contains many topics and can give some ideas to the beginner.
However, it is a genre that can not be limited to understanding where to put your fingers, a knowledge of harmony is required.
For the accompanying part there are too many forms of agreement at the beginning it is better to memorize a few and tackle the rhythm with metronome and patience. Enriching the baggage of agreements gradually.

For the part of improvisation it contains a lot of enormous approaches (arpeggios, scales, ways) and I doubt we can get to understand them in a few pages.

In my opinion it is better to start from the simplest standards, deepening the harmonic analysis and trying to enter in school mode especially at the beginning of the arpeggios for improvisation, working on the chords rhythmically for the accompaniment.

Rather choose a good teacher and work on the harmony of the classical standards (autumn leaves, all the things you are, etc ...) even if the effects are seen in the medium to long term. I assure you that the journey is at least for me rather painful and the results uncertain, for me it's worth it. I give advice on books in Italian but I think a teacher is needed:
Jazz guitar by Umberto Fiorentino
Gramaglia's theory and jazz harmony
Real book all volumes

Taut beplan, full to the point
Michael cut-av.de, 13.12.2009
This book is less a didactic textbook, than a methodically well-organized biocompendium for more advanced. In the ideal case, you have the knowledge of music, a basic understanding of the hormonal stage, and a lot of guitar practice - then you can work independently, and that very well! As a (jazz) beginner, one should definitely work with a teacher, or initially gain experience elsewhere.

Example: It starts with chords and accompaniments. Page 8: 24 Grip types for all common seventh chords to practice in 9 tracks. Page 12: Conducted extensions with 16 additional handles to practice in the next 5 tracks. Page 14: Altered chords: 42 Grifftypen - 4 sample traces. So here you have already arrived at "dominant thirteen sharp eleven" - who at this time does not know what that means, first needs another book. Not to mention the fact that the material should be transferred independently into different keys and applied to standards etc. Pp.

The CD is quite well played, not a plastic sound, but a real musician. Also very inspiring and rhythmically variable for the compilation. The examples are rather short, longer jam tracks are missing, the sampleongs at the end are under 1 min.

Competence is high. For advanced, a good and recommendable toned schedule, Jazzwissen focused to the point.
