Hagstrom Viking Bass BK

I had already tried this and other basses before deciding on which one to buy. Very pleased with the construction and finish, I found by replacing the stock supplied round wound strings with flatwounds it really ups the sound range of the superb bass.

A word of warning this is not a short scale bass as indicated, it is a medium scale bass and will need long scale strings to fit. It does of course suffer from neck dive from the large headstock but its a minor irritant rather than a major problem.

I did find the 6 way chicken head selector switch a bit daunting at first but wow what an added value to this super bass, so many options when you match it to the volume and tone controls.

The twin humbuckers supply a lovely tone whichever selection you use. I have found using the bass through my Line 6 LD 300 Pro with the bass boost on it just sings even when you split the humbuckers into single phase.

Its not over heavy and does not leave you feeling like you have been carrying a big log around with you all evening unlike some basses

The neck is a slim D style and easy to move around on and the straight through neck adds to the tone

Being a Gibson player I was very surprised and pleased with my Viking and in Black it just oozes class and style. I have played all types of musical genre and the Viking will happily fit in with all, although I do not play slap so cannot comment on this.

At the price I could not fault this super bass and as an option against my solid basses its a joy to play.
