Great reissue of a Guild classic

It is clear that Guild builds good acoustic guitars. But that in 1952 the whole Guildgeschichte in principle with electric guitars began probably not everyone.

All the more interesting is the fact that Guild has now reissued some of their classics (8 guitars, 1 bass) as part of the Newark Collection.

I am keen on this guitar since I heard Abi Wallenstein play on his original Guild Aristocrat from 1957! Therefore, a Dearmond M75 replica from 1998, which is an excellent guitar but from the design (solidbody, Dearmond-Humbucker), hardly ever had to be compared with this new Aristocrat or the old originals from the fifties .

After a small announcement of the "Guild-Newark-Series" in a guitar magazine I immediately ordered this guitar here in Thomann here at Thomann, now at the end of June it was finally available.

After the opening of the suitcase comes a pleasant vanilliger smell (as you also know from Gibson-Koffern). The guitar is painted in a stunning antique burst (the standard pictures are not really true). The transition from a dark amber over a reddish tone to the dark brown harmoniously harmonizes with the brown tone of the frame and ground.

The first thing to notice is how light this guitar is: 2.8 kg (hollow body guitar). The processing is outstanding: varnishing, binding, hardware processing are flawless. I have not the slightest to complain about. The guitar is factory set well and even gave an almost correct mood. The tuners work perfectly and the golden Harware acts very noble. The bridge is not fixed or pinned, but "floating", as in the large hollow-body jazz guitars.

The playability is excellent (the scale is a little shorter and the fingerboard at the saddle a bit narrower than with a Les Paul), so rather something for people with smaller hands.

Connected to my Fender Hotrod Deluxe, the guitar in the Cleancanal, by controlling the two single coils, unfolds very different sound colors from crystal-clear and almost a Gretsch-like Bridgeton to a very warm, soft tone almost like a pure jazz guitar similar to the neck pickup.

The pickups are not a P90, but the original "Franz's" from the original originated from France.

The official Guild video on this guitar on You Tube is unfortunately not very helpful, and does not show nearly the tonal variety that this instrument offers.

With a Boss bluesdriver and a little analogdelay in the effect loop of the fender, the Gtarre unfolds a lively, chrunchy rock blessing with a lot of character, which makes the sun rise for me. The feedback for a hollowbody guitar can be mastered and picked up.

Clearly this guitar is not suitable for metal, very distorted sounds or extreme loudness. If you are interested in earthy, slightly tweaked, chrunchy 50ger- / 60ger-sounds is well served here.

The overall impression justifies for me at any rate the slightly higher price for this guitar made in Korea. This is the case, is useful, because this guitar does not fit into a Les Paul suitcase.

Conclusion: a successful reissue of a fantastic Guild classic at a moderate price
