A 12-string that holds its tuning and sounds fantastic!

25.09.2016
This is my first Guild guitar, and it doesn't disappoint. The sound is crisp and loud, without amplification. The neck is manageable, and its feel is inviting. The tone is just what I wanted, full of rich bass colors and bright highs, too. The walnut stain wasn't my first choice, but I'm getting used to it. The weight of the neck is substantial, but not off-putting. The sound of the pickup is good, but not sublime. You can tell that Guild puts a lot of emphasis in their craftsmanship, which makes you confident while playing. I like this guitar, and am sure I will grow to love it. Still in tune out of the box. Thanks Guild.

To make it short...

Zottel, 11.07.2016
The specimen I had bought was grottenschlecht processed. The sound was relatively quiet with emphasis on the lower mids. Heights were available but dynamic play was not possible for me.

Out of the box:

Very good Thomann packaging! After the large Thoman carton was carefully opened, various air cushion cushions appeared. Including well embedded the massive Guild carton. Anticipation was the order of the day. The guitar was in a polyfoam case, as Guild calls it, which is opened by means of a zipper. Very light and apparently quite stable. For the house use, this case provides a proper protection. A nice bit, as most guitars are supplied naked. Very good!

First impression:

Then she lay in front of me in her open suitcase and beamed at me in high-gloss optics. My wife escaped a "looks great!". I too could not help a happy smile. But the smell, which came from my suitcase to my nose, did not please me at all. My first suspicion: The suitcase ...
But it was not. He was really good and smelled neutral. It was the guitar. The inner life of the guitar smelled extremely of glue. Very uncomfortable. The villain was quickly settled. Below the ceiling, visible from the outside through the sound hole, a glue-impregnated cloth was pasted to the service!

Processing:

-What can tell me more about the above glistened cloth, please contact me. I have no idea? My old "made in Westerly / USA" and a long time stolen 12er Jumbo did not have that.

- On the black ceiling binding / frame above was imitated with black edding! This can be noticed when "suspicious spots" are rubbed off with a white handkerchief and then black streaks remain. With my copy it was made so diletanisch, that one could recognize it with the naked eye.

- The inner edge of the sound hole was unpainted in the visible range. This looks very bad. Especially when you have to look up from the top while playing. Annoying!

At the upper neck / fretboard transition, lacquer splits were clearly visible and also noticeable. Impressions on the handleboard were also visible at these points. Since the guitar is provided with a relatively thick clear lacquer layer from the top to the bottom (except the upper side of the handleboard), very unsightly places can be expected here, which may also have a negative impact on playing.

The frets were well trained
- With the string, it could have gone a little more in the direction of comfort.

Sound:

I held this guitar in my hands for about 15 minutes. After five minutes of obvious assessment, I was certain that I would send them back. The other 10 minutes I tried my frustration a little down. Even then I had real doubts. The guitar sounded as soft as I was not used to from a 12-string. An expressive game was unfortunately not possible due to the limited dynamics of this copy.

Conclusion:

A guitar with the name "Guild" projects "Flowerpower", made in Westerly / Rhode Island / USA. On the guitar, there is no reference to "made in China". Because this guitar was produced at a price of 845 euros. Only a "D" before the 1212 is a finger on it! If the quality would fit, I would really not care where a guitar is made. But a selling price of 845 euros is a lot of money for an instrument. But if then processing, sound and playability are not in a balanced relationship, the calculation does not go!

My personal request to Thomann:

An evaluation should also be possible if the customer has already returned the goods. There are reasons why a product is sent back quickly! But finally it worked!
