Fantastic guitar
Sarah L, 09.02.2020
This is a beautiful little SG that Was originally for the Japanese market only. It is very reminiscent of the old 60s specials, the guitar out of the box was in perfect condition and didn’t even need much adjusting to play it’s best! For a guitar with a vibrola it stays in tune very well and has surprisingly good intonation. Any fan of vintage SG guitars will find this a pleasure however if your super traditional this guitar is slightly inaccurate, the headstock logo is silkscreen, the bridge pickup is slightly lower down than on a vintage special, the headstock tuners aren’t accurate and the guitar had a circuit board instead of hand wired, however a lot of these are easily improved.

Pros
- beautiful neck
- excellent fit & finish
- good price
- versatile tone
- well balanced for an Sg
- stays in tune well for a vibrola

Cons
- circuit board instead of hand wound
- was poorly packaged and had a lot of movement in the box

Superb guitar.
Chocky, 10.01.2020
Summary
This guitar pays homage to a 1963-66 SG special with it's aged cherry nitro and short Maestro vibrola. Otherwise, the binding, dot inlays, two P90 pickups, each with their own tone and volume control, button tuners and wrap-around bridge are typical of 1960s SG specials.

Pros
- The guitar looks fantastic; the nitro coating is medium thickness in an oxblood red colour with the woodgrain showing through. This guitar looks like a one-piece body which adds to the beauty.
- The playability is excellent. SGs are light and comfortable to play sitting down or standing up. The neck on this guitar is quite small and rounded at the nut then flattens out past the 4th fret becoming wider; it's very comfortable in the hand and easy to play chords or solos.
- It's very well balanced due to the Maestro vibrola; not all SGs are.
- The fit and finish on this guitar is good. The nut is well cut. The binding is a creamy colour and has been well applied; looks great. All the controls and hardware work perfectly; feel high quality to use and are period correct for a 60s SG special. The vibrola keeps tune well and is comfortable to use; light shimmers rather than dive bombs!
- The sound is just as you'd expect from a 60s SG special. From Harrison to Townsend you have a lot of tones here; great quality Gibson P90s. All three positions sound fantastic and different.
- Rock solid performance means that you could gig this guitar all day/night long and look super cool doing so.

Cons
- The lacquer is a bit thinker than some Gibson guitars I've owned, but it's comfortable to play and will gradually wear down with age/use.
- Intonation is close, but not perfect as expected with the limited adjustability of these "lightening" compensated bridges.

Value
- If you want to "improve" upon this limited edition SG, you'd need to spend $3000+ on a Custom Shop guitar or even more on an original 60s guitar. Either way, you'd be struggling to improve upon this guitar which I consider great value. It looks so good that I pick it up ahead of other guitars I own and play/practice longer on it. If I lost this, I'd buy the same guitar again (if available).
