Just past is also next to it

18.01.2017
First of all, I have to explain that for 15 years I have hardly played anything other than Hollowbodymodelle.
It all started with an Ibanez JSM 100, the Scofield model, the original.
2006 I bought a normal ES-335 in VS. Now I've been trying to figure out what would be the absolute, ultimate madness. I mainly play jazz but also rock, blues, bluesrock etc. The 335 is the most variable guitar in the world and the balancing act that this type of guitar lays down is simply unique. So I wanted nothing but the best in the world. In 2014 I bought the then Larry Carlton 335. By the way, a crazy guitar.

After some saving, it was now and I got the 1959er, which is already visually beautiful on the pictures to the kneeling knee. I was in love from the first moment.
When I unpacked the guitar, I was absolutely thrilled. The finish is very tastefully geaged, without missing corners or real scratches. I was able to make friends. I play the first note on the deep E-string on the seventh fret and:
It was a sir and a whisper that I wanted to drive again. I try it on the tenth covenant: it is buzzing at the 5th covenant: it is buzzing ...

It is incomprehensible. The guitar costs really thick money and somewhere in the pickups or in the body there are vibrations, which actually also affect the electric sound. So not only purely acoustic in dry operation.

I've calmed down, smoked and thought I was ok, my 2005 ES-175 has been chewing, the same noise, my 2006 L-5 has been muttering after a few months, the same noise, my 2007 Super 400 has also been moaning months after.
Only my two 335 did not.

I then connected the 1959er to the amp and lo and behold: a warm round full-mellow tone reaches my ear. Ah ha sounds nice, but not so much different than my 2006er 335. So I have alternately played the one and then the other. The difference is absolutely marginal. The 1959er is a tick softer on the high e-string, which is probably not even on the pickup but on the neck twice as thick. The thickness of the neck greatly influences the tone of the guitar. The point is: If the 1959er sounds like the original for around 40,000 and the 1959er but does not sound much different than my 0815 335 from 2006 then my 2006er 335 sounds like a 1959er for around 40,000?

The sound difference is really sobering low. I dare to say that 90% of the guitarists present here had not heard any difference at all, and certainly none of them anyhow. Since I'm wondering what the whole nonsense with surveying and research, Rolled Binding, Hide Glue concept etc. That is all so for'n ...

After I have no desire to put five balkong-sized giants for a clanking guitar, which, even one would get away, does not sound great differently than my 335 from 2006, the optically more than successful guitar went back.

Gibson still manages to disappoint me after over 30 years of guitar playing. Someone should actually run into the extended ones. Their American arrogance is only ridiculous in terms of quality.

Excellent blues guitar

cliff gallup, 19.01.2018
For now, many thanks to Thomann for the prompt delivery, professional packaging and the nice and competent advice on the purchase.
After much deliberation, I decided to buy one of my dream guitars despite the proud price that is called for. After opening the typical Gibson suitcase a 335er beamed at me, as I imagined. After a first critical look, the workmanship was impeccable, which I took for granted with an instrument of this price class, but unfortunately was not always the case with Gibson. Acoustically hinted, the possibilities of this guitar can already be guessed. A round, warm tone with a respectable sustain wakes up my enthusiasm. The real highlight, however, is this neck with a rich C profile that some would probably call baseball bats. However, I stand at exactly those massive 50s necks where you have something in your hand and produce a lot of sustain. Of course, such a neck is only conditionally suitable for shredders and high speed players, but there are also other guitars for that. The wound up ten strings are a bit too easy for me, at the first string change I exchange them for a polished set of 11 or 12 pieces. Even the slightly low set string position can be easily corrected and adjusted to my ideals. Since I mainly play blues, jazz and rockabilly, this instrument sounds perfect to me over a classic tube amp. I use a Fender Vibrolux.
The amplifier confirms the dry sound of the instrument. The 335 brings a wonderfully balanced, warm tone that "sings" wonderfully. The pickups perfectly reproduce the character of the Gibson and the great neck produces a lot of sustain. At the neck pickup it can be wonderful to sing, the bridge pickup can in some cases also strong grab (of course, not for the heavy metal fraction, but this guitar is not suitable because of their "sophistication"). With the combination circuit can be realized good rhythm sounds. The 335 is for me an ideal blues guitar, with which you can also enjoy excellent classical R & R and R & B, on the bridge pickup funky sounds ala Jimmy Nolen, etc. can play.
Finally, I can say that after a slight readjustment of the string position and strength with the 59er ES-335, I found a professionally usable instrument that sounded optimally in my opinion.
