A fair compromise between brightness and playability
Andy55, 03.07.2019
I bought these strings to use on a Cort acoustic bass, on a quest to find something reasonably bright and loud when played acoustically, but without the annoying clatter usually associated with phosphor bronze strings.

GHS say these are “the first phosphor bronze bass string that does not have harsh and abrasive overtones and finger noise, just a smooth mid-focused sound.” I’d say that’s a pretty accurate description.

Played acoustically, once the zinginess of new strings has worn off after a day or two, they are not quite as bright as conventional phosphor bronze strings, but finger and fretting noise is much reduced, although by no means eliminated – they are nowhere near as forgiving of poor fretting hand technique as flats or tapewounds. I’ve previously been using Labella white nylon tapewound, which although pleasing tonally on the top two strings, gave a very muted output on the lower two strings. The GHS strings give a satisfyingly full-bodied sound here, with good string to string balance and excellent sustain.

That full bodied sound satisfies even more when played plugged in. Winding back the treble a little to reduce fingering noise still leaves sufficient overtones to give that characteristic phosphor bronze brightness together with a deep resonant bass.

Bottom line for me though is that, whilst I love the sound, having been using flats and tapewounds on all my basses for quite a while, I’ll have to brush up my technique before I’ll be happy using these strings in public!

A smooth touch for a bright sound
vegejo, 20.10.2019
I used this set on my acoustic Cort bass , I was looking a bronze set of strings but without the rush feeling of it (without getting slipery like an elixir)

I like the feeling of the string and the brightness of it, the strings looks well manufactured, and if its like my other GHS it will have a decent life ... will see.

It's my best acoustic strings for the moment, the price is I feel a little bit too much though but we have the habits us bass player.

Nicht gefunden was ich suchte
Tommy33, 22.10.2020
Auf Akustikbass Guild; Mensur medium; Stimmung D#...
Originalsaiten: Daddario EPBB170

Without strings, guitars and basses produce no sound, yet most players know very little about them.
