60's wood sound with charm and color

Robo, 20.01.2014
Now it has arrived, the red darling, well and as always with Thomann, in a second carton packaged.
I have not yet had a Relic guitar, let alone a Heavy Relic, and my skepticism has been great for a long time. Extra pay for a matte guitar?
This one has it to me somehow done, it has incredibly much character, feels extremely good, just imported and the fragrance also seems somehow vintage. You will not get rid of the feeling of smelling 50 years past ...
I really like a lot of artist or signature guitars; But I like the Landau very well, that Michaels name does not stand on it. So a hidden artist, so to speak.

At the beginning I wanted to buy a John Mayer as a cheap alternative to my Eric Johnson Strat and also as a Strat Contrastsound. The Big Dipper PU of the Mayer have addressed me, Mayer plays however the guitar itself and I have hesitated, a marketing masks. Just in time, the Landau emerged and it has boomed. Perhaps it is also a marketing masks here, but love makes blindly known ;-)

Compared to the Johnson Strat, which is based on a 57 Maple Neck with a V-neck profile, it sounds darker, woody brittle, more complete, but not quite as bell-like. That was expectable. The typical Strat-Knopfler sound in position 2 of the PU-selector switch goes better with the Johnson.
In the Landau I like the medium-PU better, he is not as harsh as with the Johnson (where I seldom use it alone). In general it sounds very good, never cutting and with the vol. And the soundpots can be formed many sounds, up to the dull jazzbox. The pickups are screwed relatively far into the dashboard, which may lead to the not quite so crisp intermediate positions. But the bony dry sound fits like that. Here you can play more with the single PU's. By the way, the sound for my 56s Les Paul Goldtop tends to be with P90's. The PU's are modified Fat 50's, wrapped according to Landaus specifications, whatever that may be. The bridge-PU is slightly hotter than the other two and has apparently wounded the longtime "Lerhochter" of Abigail Ybarra.

So my personal goal is achieved, I have an alternative, great strategy to the Mapleneck. The neck has a very good profile, rather flat D than C and certainly not V, that belongs to the 57ern. The frets are 6105 and narrow, vintage, but higher. They fit def. Better to this instrument than pure jumbos.
I'm not sure if it's a good deal, but I'm not a big fan, but I'm not a big fan I have not been able to bend the sides so far that they come to rest, not even above the 12th covenant Ok, the string position is relatively high, what But it is not a shredding guitar anyway, and as the age grows, most guitarists return to higher strings, according to the motto: less tempo, more sound ;-)
By the way, I have not had such a light strat in my hands, the selected, light alder makes itself felt here.

The goodies in the suitcase are also not to be despised, Fender fabric cable, beautiful belt and the Cruztoolset! Finally the right tools to measure the strings!

The only criticism: the high E string runs relatively close to the edge of the handleboard. This has possibly to do with the narrow neck, is also a phenomenon, which has many screw-neck guitars (neck not screwed completely straight / play in the holster, etc.), here also comes that the notch in the rider is not clearly defined .

Bottom line but an absolute beauty, this red lady, you do not have to be a Landau fan, the guitar is suitable for blues rock jazz anyway and shows a lot of character and has this vintage charm.

A very cool Stratocaster

12.03.2016
Before approaching the 1963 Michael Landau signature Stratocaster You Should Be aware of one thing: first of all you have to really dig old and, most of all, relic guitars. This one shows a very well done heavy relic job, Particularly on the body, with finish checking and lots of wear and tear. In my opinion the neck could have better matched the look of the body: it looks too "new" to my eyes.

Weight is 3,48kg. Not too light, but light!

The guitar plays beautifully, thanks to C-shape neck and to high narrow jumbo frets. Pick ups (FAT 50's) are excellent in intermediate positions and I really like the neck position. Bridge pickup sounds a little weak and not as round and creamy as the other ones, in my opinion.

Cruz tools included are phenomenal: you'll setup your guitar just like a real Custom Shop luthier, with great accuracy!

Thanks Thomann for Allowing me to be the lucky owner of one, and thanks a bunch for the superb customer service. I hope to deal with You again, soon!

PROS:
- A real vintage strat sound
- Plays confortable
- Great quality
- Beautiful
- Good investment
- Cruz tools included

CONS:
- Neck could show them to more accurate relic job
- Bridge pickup could have been hotter and creamier
- Could have been a little bit lighter weight
