Very nice instrument

Wilbury, 21.09.2018
First of all, I have to say I'm very impressed by the qulity of Fender guitars whether built in the USA, Japan or Mexico. While not being a particular fan of Fender or Gibson, I've been comparing these two brands in terms of quality consistence, and Fender has by far been my favourite in recent years.
When buying this particular guitar, I was choosing from two colour verions. Finally I chose the red one, but both pieces that I was offered at the Thomann store to choose between were equally well built.
And in my opinion this MIM Duo-Sonic is quite comparable in terms of quality to a similar MIJ Mustang Special that I also have.
The playability of the guitar is great, just as I expected. Soundwise I cannot really give a meaninful review as I'm more of a bedroom player and never really used it with a proper amplifier. (I gave Sound 5 stars just because the rating must be done on all parameters.)
Anyhow, I stronly recommend this guitar, as well as other Fender axes built in USA, Japan and Mexico.
One special feature of this guitar that I want to share with those who are about to purchase it online without any first-hand experience. The fretboard of the guitar is varnished, but the back of the neck is not. It's totally fine with me, but I rather consider it a measure of economy.
All in all, I'm totally satisfied with this purchase and think of getting another one in a different colour.

For experimenting

I wanted a little less bulky for stubborn practice in the living room while the TV was running.
My specimen weighs almost 3 grams on the gram, my Deluxe Strat weighs almost 500 grams more. The processing is overall simple but good to very good. The body does not have the ergonomic shapes of the normal strat, but due to its smaller size it is less important. The mechanisms run round and are tuning stable.
If you look at the two guitars next to each other you can still see what you spent more money (most certainly was not justified).
It is a pity that the entrance for the cable not as in the normal Stratschräge from the body. On the bridge the screws of the string holders protrude from the top, depending on the setting, which may result in sharp points, but not as violently as with some Telecaster bridges.
The significantly shorter scale has in addition to the better handiness also disadvantages: those who change between main and exercise guitar more often has to change constantly synonymous. Virtuosic speed fanatics will appreciate this less, but the guitar can not do anything. And should young beginners with shorter limbs do not get used to the standard measures at the same time? Everyone has to decide for themselves.
The varnished handleboard was as easy as I had hoped. The string position can be adjusted comfortably deep without it rattling.
At the sound of the pickups I have nothing to complain about. On their own, they have the usual side-effects of single coils. If the toggle switch is in the middle, it will disappear. The sound is still brighter than a typical humbucker. This is balm for the ears while practicing in the silent home!
PS:
I'm still not clear whether the concept of the much shorter scale makes so much sense. I just can not get rid of a "half-thing" in my hand. Also the ongoing conversion to the other Strat disturbs me. However, this assessment has nothing to do with the evaluation of this solid instrument as such. You have to know what you are getting into.
