From the inventor of guitar strings

Strings made by Ernie Ball - the proverbial icing on the cake for a powerful sound with plenty of sustain. Since the early 1960s, the US company has been making strings for almost every stringed instrument. This vast wealth of experience is clearly demonstrated in every product, and it is not by chance that Ernie Ball remains one of the market's leading manufacturers to this day. The product range has expanded immensely over the course of several decades and now includes many accessories such as effect pedals, cables, straps, and high-quality picks alongside the company's extensive selection of strings. However, Ernie Ball's core business is and remains the production of all manner of strings, which set standards in terms of sound, tuning stability, and durability - and the company is still based in Indio, California.

Comfortable strings for solo playing

The Ernie Ball 2008 Earthwood Bronze string set is made with a winding composed of 80% copper and 20% zinc, which guarantees a crisp sound rich in overtones as well as plenty of volume and excellent durability. With gauges of .010, .013, .017p, .030, .042, und .052, the Ernie Ball 2008 Earthwood Bronze string set offers solo players in particular a greater level of playing comfort thanks to its plain G-string, delivering precise intonation along the entire length of the fingerboard and lasting tuning stability from the moment you put the strings on.

Traditionally reliable

Thanks to its long playing life, loud and well-balanced sound, precise intonation, and high tuning stability, the Ernie Ball 2008 Earthwood Bronze string set is particularly recommended as a reliable companion for ambitious acoustic guitarists who are looking for a high level of playing comfort combined with a rich, full sound for chord work. The combined power of over 50 years of experience in string development at Ernie Ball also makes the 2008 Earthwood Bronze string set the first choice for acoustic guitars - and at a very fair price.

About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. Over the years, the range has expanded and now includes accessories such as cables, picks, straps, etc. Ernie Ball is also known in connection with the instrument manufacturer Music Man, which the company bought in 1984, but which continues to operate as an independent brand.

Punchy chords and smooth solos

The Ernie Ball 2008 Earthwood Bronze string set with its "Rock & Blues" configuration, low tension, and plain G-string provides the best strings for acoustic guitarists who need both a comfortable playing feel for solo passages and a full sound for chord work. The strings' precise intonation means that chords and voicings will always sound bright and clear anywhere on the fingerboard. In addition, these Ernie Ball strings feature outstanding tuning stability as well as a direct response, all of which will be helpful in getting your timing as precise as possible. Those who instead go in for a warmer and more bell-like sound may prefer the Ernie Ball Earthwood Phosphor Bronze strings, which are available with identical gauges. A comparison between these two types of strings might be well worthwhile in order to exploit the guitar's full sonic potential and thoroughly explore your personal preferences in terms of playability.

I bought 3 sets of these strings mainly for two reasons.
1st, I use Ernie Ball 2004 Light set and the sound and playability is superb.
2nd, this set has a plain G string, not wound, which allows to fast change 3 strings chords without the usual squeak that wound strings provide. I was curious about that.
Well, yes, but the plain G string in this set detunes massively just for applying more pressure or just going up the neck. It's the only string in this set to detune.
When you go to the octave G on the 12th fret, you get almost a G#.
It's a pitty because the sound is pretty neat, good sustain, but detuning like that is not playable at all. I did test it for a while and could confirm - the G string on this set is very sensitive to pressure and goes up out of tune easily. The B and E stings, also not wound, stay in tune.
Back to the light 2004 Ernie Ball set with the wound G string.
Great sound and does keep in tune. Have to live with the squeak.

Great strings
Anonymous 19.02.2017
I have been playing guitar for over 40 years now, using various type & marks of strings. I mostly play electric guitars but I also have an accustic & a classic one too.

A set of Earnie Ball strings came accidental my way for my electric guitar so I install it on & that was it ! Of cause I haven't try all the strings on the market but now I don't have to look further around.

Last year I bought Earnie Ball for my acoustic ones, steel & nylon, with no regret. The strings are bright, keep tunes & sound on deep & bright.
I was used to accept when the D string teared apart long before the others but with Earny Ball strings, that is history.
They all last very long.

To the fingers the touch is soft with great ability of streching. My steel one felt like a new & maybe like an different one with those strings.

The caracter of an guitar depend mostly on the instrument, amps & strings. I like the caracter which come through here fill my needs. I know Jimmy Page like it for his guitars ( I saw it on youtube ) I would say : try it !

Good light sound

I don't know how to describe exactly, but they have this light, puffy sound. Not ear soar bright or boringly midrange. They have a specific sound, very good. Good at fingerpicking, strum, solo, slide. I would suggest to anyone. I've played some dull sounding and some to "specific" but these are a nice interesting sound not loosing the template for a good acoustic tone.
