Ernie Ball EB6167

Stereo Volume PedalAll Ernie Ball volume pedals are characterised by absolute roadability. The machined aluminum housing is undoubtedly superior to it's stability. The pedal axles are made of stainless steel so wearing should not be feared. A robust rubber mat ensures a non-slip grip. In addition to the high dead weight, four rubber feet each guarantee secure hold of the equipment on the floor. All pedals work passively, so no batteries are required. The mechanical design is designed in such a way that the potentiometers are moved by means of a cable pull when the pedals pass through. Each pedal is moved thousands of times before delivery - which speaks for the final check! Thanks to the open housing and the inserted cable connections at the potentiometer, the parts are extremely service-friendly. In order to simplify the handling, the jack bushes are now all on the front side.

With the EB6167, keyboardists were also thought of. This is a 25K ohm stereo pedal.

Unavoidable

AlexandreM, 24.12.2013
The best volume pedal. Acun modification on the tone of the sound is transparent. The ergonomics are exemplary: the pedal responds to the quarter turn and the jacks are oriented towards the back, not on the sides. Easy to use and place on a pedalboard. The 4 screws of the rubber feet can be used to fix the pedal without velcro (it is too heavy for that). And then it is sober and the finish is at the top.
The mono model, with switch and output to tuner (it is no longer manufactured), serves as a "pedal gain" replacing the volume knob of the guitar when I play plans bringing hands too far from this knob (tapping , Harmonics etc.) I have had it for fifteen years: it does not stumble, it is the sturdy!
With this stereo model, I go into the effects loops of two Dual Rectifier heads to measure the presence of delays. This is the Steve Morse method that I discovered during a concert of Deep Purple in 1996. Steve Morse then used 8 pedals Ernie Ball as expression pedal including an Eventide GTR4000, without switching system. He opened loops, then played solos over without any "cloncs" in the sound. The Ernie Ball allows for smooth changes. I call it the "morphing volume", at least the term that seems to me to describe the result obtained. You can measure the effect according to the feeling of the moment and it is always beautiful. It's a bit like passing the gears of his car without the smallest hitch: we do not hear the change.
Today Steve Morse has only three Ernie Ball in mono: the first for a Memory Man as a short delay, the second for another Memory Man as a long delay and the third for a Boss octaver. The effect passes in one of the two Engl, the other Engl releasing the raw sound (wet / dry system).
As I play stereo, I needed this stereo model in the loops in parallel. Caution, this method requires the use of buffers in order not to lose signal. In the studio, if you use the minimum length of cable, it passes without buffering. If you attack the loops of two Bogner like Steve Lukather, they are isolated, so no need to reverse the phase. If you are using Mesa, you will have to isolate the signal, either with a mains-powered hum killer (eg RJM, The GigRig etc.) or by balancing the signal at a given moment to eject the parasites Jack to the XLR before returning to the jack).
But you can imagine other applications such as controlling insert effects in a mixer or changing the volume of two amps at the same time. Etc.
So, on my pedalboard, I have the mono model for the gain and chorus Boss in front before attacking the amp, the stereo model in parallel for delays (Time Factor, Deluxe Memory Man, Flashback and Carbon Copy Switchable to the footcontroler in a stereo looper RJM Rack Gizmo), and another stereo model in parallel for the reverb (TC R4000).
In fact, apart from my wah wah Silvermachine and the RJM footcontroler to go from one delay to another, go from a saturated channel to a clean channel or cut the chorus, I have only Ernie Ball on my pedalboard . That is to say if I strongly advise you to try the craft!
