Compromise a real Gibson LP, for 5x cheaper ...

Mby, 05.06.2011
To situate myself, I play for about 15 years, I rather enjoy the saturation and solos hard rock or metal (and also folk, but this is off topic!). I also own a Gibson SG Standard and sold my Strat Highway 1 US to pay for this new guitar. I have a 75w Line 6 modeling amp.

The exterior aspect of this guitar is splendid, the color caramel is chewable, only the plastic pickguard cream, detached from the body, makes a little cheap, but the rest of the finishes is really great for the price.

The chromed mechanics make me better impression than the plastic tulips of the SG (grrr ...), the handle is quite similar. (Shape, width, thickness). The LP is definitely heavier than the SG, but finally close to my ex-Strat, so it's not annoying at the moment.

I plugged in, and left. It is instantly the sound that I like, well fat in saturated, it seems that the adjustment possibilities offer more diversity than the SG. Small rhythmic R'n'R and I place a solo, the sound is really nice, the neck as fast (or slow ...) as the SG. On the other hand, small flat, it seems that the frets hang a little, the sensation is less fluid than with the SG.

After 10 years of Strat, I did not play much electric, and I switched to Gibson with the least expensive Standard, the SG. It has a terrible sound, but I had enough of the black guitars (the finishes in left handed models are not very varied). That's why I did not take Custom ebony. This LP offers a beautiful finish for an affordable price (I still struggle to put 2000 euros in a guitar ...). Through a modeling amp, the sound does not finally have to blush in front of a real Gibson SG, and the comfort of play a little lower than with my SG is still quite satisfactory. For less than 500 euros with the box, here is a very nice instrument that I will have less of anxiety to walk outside.

Revision after 1 month of use: always also good impression on the sound. The strings and / or frets were a little oxidized, or at least left me black traces on my fingers. Now it's over and the fluidity is increased. On the other hand this LP is really heavy, it is not a legend ... I will invest in term in security strap locks, for fear of letting it fall. I also note that fatigue in the right wrist (reminder, I am left-handed) comes faster than with the SG. However, I almost play only with the news!

A small money instrument

Nils031, 27.08.2010
Features:
There are the typical Les Paul features. 2 Volume and 2 Tone controls and a 3-way switch to switch between the pickups. I noticed that the controls have to be turned around here, as for example with my Gibson SG. This is a habit but you can quickly find your way around. The neck is good playable and not too thick, but also not as thin as the neck of some Ibanez models. The guitar has 22 frets and the 20th fret is still accessible for me. At the 22nd Confederation, I have problems standing up, especially when I still want to bend him, since the neck is already glued in the thick body (no screws) and you have to go around this first. Therefore here "only" 4 stars. But since I have previously played on a SG, I am also a little pampered with regard to the high frets;)

Sound:
The sound of this guitar for the price is great. The solid body gives the sound a lot of sustain and a full sound, but also brings a decent weight with which you have to get used to. From the pickups you can get a soft bluesy sound as well as snappy highs. The centers here are a little too short for me, but that is a matter of taste. The guitar keeps the mood good and rarely needs to be adjusted.

Processing:
For this price, the workmanship and the appearance is outstanding. I did not expect that.
On the upper side you can find a beautiful, vaulted flamboyant roof. On which the lacquer is uniformly applied. The fingerboard is cleanly processed, as are the bindings on the neck and the upper edge of the body.

Unfortunately the guitar, as it arrived with me, was not playable well. The strings in the 12th fret were several millimeters above the fretbands, but this could be quickly remedied with a little tool. Therefore here only 4 stars.

On the whole, it is a great instrument, which hardly corresponds to a genuine Gibson. The thing with the playability of the high frets is finally synonymous there probably not different, the string position can be corrected and who is not satisfied with the sound, the pickup yes can still exchange against 57er Classics or what is a dear;) Therefore, from me: CLEAR PURCHASE RECOMMEND!
