Very good acoustic

MickS, 12.03.2015
I had been encouraged to buy The Inspired By 1964 Texan by members of the Gibson Guitar Board. The guitar has a very good reputation amongst the members of this message board. Many agreed that for the price it was one of the best Epiphone acoustics ever. Straight out of the box the setup was perfect. I normally have to tweak something before a guitar feels right to me, but this Texan was just right. The neck has a great feel and there are no sharp fret ends. The sunburst finish is beautiful, a short of "iced tea" look. It is literally a great find in low priced acoustic electric dreadnoughts!!! The quality and sound at this price point is amazing. Solid spruce top and solid mahogany back with laminate mahogany sides, with a sound that emulates a much more expensive and all solid wood guitar. This guitar shines when playing chords. they ring out with each noted clearly getting through, unlike some inexpensive acoustics where notes clash and jangle. The Shadow Nanoflex pickup and Shadow Sonic sound-hole preamp system is far better than I had envisaged it would be - I have used under-saddle pickups before and I have never been impressed. This system however, is the best I have come across and replicated the acoustic sound very well. This is one of the best value acoustics I have ever encountered, especially for the price, the wood is nice, the finish is very good, the weight feels right and the sound is far better than any at this price. And at Thomann the guitar was £30 cheaper than anywhere in the UK. Once again, good quality, good service, great deal!!

Surprisingly good!

Dr.Dirk, 25.02.2010
As the owner of an Epiphone Texan 1964 Paul McCartney I was curious about this guitar, which I have now bought mainly for the stage.

The first impression after unpacking: The "Inspired by Texan" VCB looks much better than was expected in the pictures. The strings are relatively flat and very playable. After about 5 minutes playing I noticed that my fingertips were black, so there was a lot of dark factory dust on the strings. Strings so quickly change and fret fret are here duty, in addition, the fingerboard can also tolerate a few drops of oil.

After the change of the string and the cleaning shop finally the reward: the guitar sounds good!
It is loud, full and relatively bright in sound. With the Advanced Jumbo Form, a real Gibsonsound, which does not sound cheap at all. Compared to my "classy" "real" Texan, she sounds a bit coarse, but not ESSENTALLY worse.

The neck is a bit thicker than the 1964 Texan and should meet most people there even.

The pickup sounds neat, but as far as the rules are concerned, it does not belong to the league, which is not surprising at this price. The volume and sound control takes place in the soundhole. Advantage: the frame was not sawn, disadvantage: somewhat more complicated in handling.

The workmanship is good overall (massive Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back, laminated mahogany sides), but you can also catch some specimens whose wood has a few optical quirks, which does not affect the sound (have several "Inspired by "Models can see).
The lacquer has only minimal cleanliness, but the bridge pins do not optimally fit the punched holes. During the string change they slipped quite a long time until they finally somehow tightened (always nice thumb on it).

Conclusion: currently below 300 euros with a good pickup currently unrivaled. Texan purists should look for a used "1964 McCartney" (Japan or USA), which also makes some Gibson look old. All others are also best served with this edition.
