Wonderful ...

Soulbridge, 12.06.2014
"Can not you say a few words about the new Gold Edition?"

Patience ... I'm only on installation CD no. 5 ..... of 9.;)

I can not say exactly how long the installation took. I was in between shopping and cleaned the apartment.
It's similar to television, where the ads are constantly interrupted by a movie. So you have enough time for important things ...

And then?

Funny .... I've been playing the piano since I was 5 years old and only now did I come up with the idea to buy a good piano sound for my keyboard.

My instruments are my family and my oldest friend is my real (not virtual) Steinway & Son piano from circa 1950, made in Hamburg. I just let it re-tune about every 7 years and that's enough.
A Steinway has this bell sound and the slight clinking in the tones. And if you play with all the keys while holding down the pedal and then "throwing away" a single tone, you hear it clearly and clearly.

To microfone a piano properly is not easy and expensive. Midi data, on the other hand, greatly facilitate the subsequent notation of compositions, arrangements and integration with other instruments. Also, an acoustic piano is always tuned deviating depending on the temperature and humidity. So much talk for a piano on a midi keyboard, if the sound would not always rob one of his inspiration and feeling.

The Steinway in the Symphonic Orchestra is quite nice ... what more can you expect from VSTi's? An acoustic piano will not work anyway.

Now I have to say, I'm positively surprised what EastWest has done with QL Pianos.

What did I notice immediately?

Hey, that sounds like a real acoustic piano and the sound sounds very familiar to me. There are also the bells and the clinking. And no "porridge" while holding the pedal and running over the entire keyboard.

Damn ... my piano was never so clean ... but I've been sitting on such wings before.

I realized once again ... and had forgotten ... how crucial the sound is for inspiration in improvisation. Each instrument is different and makes me play differently. For keyboard piano sounds, it usually only took me back to my real Steinway. But this time it inspired me to start playing ... wonderful. That's what it's all about, right?

Suddenly I realize: My keyboard keys do not stick to the sounds ... But that's another story.

And why the gold edition?

I even have a very powerful calculator, but apart from the price, I also liked the idea of ??having some reserve in order to caress a piano for orchestral accompaniment.

For my purposes, a production of a piano album, live concerts and the composition of film music, I have found the essential core with QL Pianos Gold, which gives me a sufficiently good start.

Incidentally, even the Bechstein and Bosendorfer are wonderful to use with their character. The Yamaha grand piano stands out clearly in character and I would see / hear more in the pop area.

The operation is clear, simple and completely sufficient.
Stop, articulations, sound developments and room environments can be individually adapted. What more do you want?

Ok, the first loading of a full piano sound can take 60 seconds. After that, however, the change between the sounds is very fast.

Latencies? None for me. (Steinberg UR22 interface, Quad Core i5-2400, 3.1GHz, 8GB Ram, Win7, Solid State boot disk and internal internal standards for the streams.)

For me it is clear: I will use Pianos Gold both studio recordings, as well as for live performances.
Emotions are awakened and can be expressed well.

That's how easy it can be. That is fun.

My recommendation.

A good sample bank

02.06.2016
EWQL offers us here an excellent collection of VST pianos.

Count on no less than 55 GB of free space to store all the pianos. Loading from a hard drive may take a little time ...

The pianos are very responsive and pleasing to the ear. One can easily trick the ear facing a real piano with a little experience when using these vst and a proper sequencer. Only flat, they tend to be a little disappointing on repetitions more or less fast.

I still strongly recommend this edition for people looking for a good quality virtual piano.
