A very fine choice

Stratboy, 18.04.2018
This is my first Archtop guitar and I bought this mainly for home use and recording after quite a lot of consideration. The Sunburst over flamed Maple is gorgeous and I love the art deco styling, it really looks the part. I chose it also because it has the smaller body and this makes it very comfortable to play. The neck feels quite chunky but comfortable, with no sharp fret ends, a really good job done there. The guitar sounds great and a decent range of tones can be achieved. I did consider other guitars with split coils but you can still get a good bright tone from the bridge pickup. It is a versatile guitar and I think people playing a range of styles and not just Jazz will be more than pleasantly surprised. I had good communication with the guys at Thomann and they are to be commended for their customer service.

Yes but !

I think about the quality of this instrument can be sufficient information in relevant forums. In how far this EXSS manufactured in Korea is following a (much more expensive) NYSS from Vestax times, remains an exciting question. As an all-rounder with anchors in jazz I am very satisfied with this semi-acoustic. Especially for gigs or jam sessions, where a lot of jazz is played, but again and again different sounds are played (rock, funk, blues) and you actually need another guitar, you are definitely safe with the D'Angelico EXSS String. BUT: now to a serious complaint. Before I could play on it properly, there was some disappointment. The part was delivered with a creepy factory setting - not only with regard to the string position and octave purity, no: the saddle holders were not even properly refined and the play in lower positions practically impossible. Why the new piece had to be "overtaken" by the specialist. With an instrument from the house of D'Angelico and not least with the price of about 1,500 EUR, I'm simply speechless, because also the part with official certificate of the work arrived at me.
