From calculators to keyboards

Chris2807, 03.02.2017
I went from a Roland FA-06 to this..
The main reason for the change concerned the ease of use.. I just couldn't get to grips with the user interface of the Roland. The keys and construction also felt cheap and plasticky. Visibility of the labels on the top casing, next to the knobs and buttons is awful. I found the memorisation of favourites illogical and confusing. Even the sounds had different banks with confusing labelling.. It brought me to the edge of tears on a number of occasions. The sounds were pretty good though, but frustration with the interface caused me to change.
I noticed the Casio PX-560 in a shop one day, and was impressed with the simplicity & quality feel of the keys.. I didn't have time to try it, but decided to find out more, so read the manual & watched some demos on You Tube.
I liked what I saw, and heard, so decided to go for it, and I'm glad I did.
I think that one thing that may put people off, is the name.. Casio.? You can't be serious.! They make cheap
keyboards alongside Bontempi, and calculators don't they..? Well, yes they do, but it seems that they have launched into making some high end keyboard / synth models too.. Don't let the name put you off, there's something cool somewhere, about not using the usual stuff, especially when you hear the sounds it's capable of producing.. And BTW, many Casio calulators from the 1970's are still working perfectly, today.! So that's a good pedigree.!
So, the first thing you'll notice is the Touch Screen.. This is made by Casio themselves, and makes selection & editing very easy. There's a vast array of sounds available, and these can be layered up to a total of 6.
You can access in depth parameters for modification of the basic sounds, memorise them, and the favourites function is very easy to use. The touch screen menu is in colour and very logical, so not too much reference to the manual is needed.
There are 3 assignable control knobs on the top panel, which are useful.
The keys feel beautiful, although they lean more towards a piano feel rather than synth; quite heavy, but with good dynamic sensitivity.
There's a sequencer, and some really nice inbuilt drum sounds & patterns, lots of effects, and plenty of convincing sounds, from concert pianos, through to interesting synth sounds.. I would have liked some mellotron sounds, but you can get close with tweaking..
I bought the bundle from Thomann, including the stand, pedals, and stool, and I'm very pleased with it all, particularly with the ease of use, the solid construction, and the large variety of really good sounds..

Great piano

amitev, 21.07.2018
The piano is excellent for its price range.

Pros:
The piano sounds are really wonderful!
It also contains a lot of other sounds. Some of them are with top quality while some of the are not that appropriate for stage usage.
The touch screen is quite convenient, although there is more to like from the usability of the software.
Beside the digital piano it also contains synth features with three assignable knobs that can be use to control the effects and the awesome Hex layer functionality that is very very cool.
The AUX IN is very useful for me. I can plug my phone there and play along with my backing tracks so I can practice the songs when the band is not around.
Lightweight!! - it weights only 12kg making it perfect for gigs.
The blue finish with pearl effect is quite awesome.
There is a forum that contains additional sounds that you can download and install on the piano.
It contains most of the features that you get in Nord for twice the price.

Cons:
As old model it lacks bluetooth connectivity but it contains every other type of connectivity - L/R, USB, MIDI, AUX IN.
The only thing I'm missing is the ability to change the registrations/sounds using a pedal. That is quite useful for playing songs where multiple sounds are sequentially used. I know that there are registration banks for this but it occupies the hangs that are needed for playing.
Storing metronome settings and touch velocity settings in the registration doesn't work for me although it should according to the manual.

Summary:
Highly recommended product. Awesome for stage, studio and home usage.
