Plenty of cornet for money
26.01.2017
Model:
CCR-8880-GSS-Bb-L

Execution:
- Sound and mouth pipe made of gold brass, heavy weight, clear lacquer
- For further details, please visit the CarolBrass homepage under "Custom Series"
- Amado water flaps (who likes it)

Delivery:
- Very nice little wooden case (as for picot trumpet)
- Cleaning cloth
- valve oil
- Pulling fat
- mouthpiece: "CarolBrass 7c"
- Three differently heavy valve covers
- An extraset light valve cover is unfortunately NOT included (in contrast to the CarolBrass trumpets)

Processing:
- Overall very tidy
- No paint defects, no scratches
- clean solder joints
- The trains are unfortunately not made of nickel silver as with higher-quality instruments, but from brass, which corrodes much faster.
- The valves run very quickly, reliably and quietly after repeated thorough cleaning.

Intonation:
- The intonation of the cornet is really excellent - the tuner shows hardly any rash from the middle position over the entire range of the tone (until it '' ').
- Overall, the instrument is quite high. You have to be careful when choosing the mouthpiece: Cornet mouthpieces are available with SHORT and LONG shank. The instrument is optimized for mouthpieces with LONG shank. When using short mouthpieces, the tuning pull must be loosely pulled out 2.5 cm (at 443 Hz).

Sound and speech:
- Cornet-type good response. Virtuosic pieces à la Arban or Clarke are much easier than on the trumpet.
- Pleasant soft tone
- The "typical" cornet sound (as with any other cornet) can only be achieved with the appropriate mouthpiece (with deep V-kettle), eg with a Dennis Wick 4b, the classic Cornet mouthpiece at all.
- With the supplied 7c mouthpiece it plays very easily, but the instrument then sounds like a slightly softer trumpet.
- My main purpose for the instrument is the soloistic, classical cornet literature. The instrument is ideally suited for this purpose. As it is in a traditional brass band, I can not judge.

Conclusion:
For under 1000 EUR a really excellent instrument. One should not believe now that for this price a Cornet from the (price) class of a Besson prestige gets. The 6xxx series from Yamaha (for approx. 600? More) corresponds to the instrument with certainty.
