Bogner Blue Awesome

Keith Johns, 10.05.2015
I had a few problems fitting the Bogner into my pedalboard....it behaves like a preamp and sounds best last inline before your amp....it took me a few days of ranting at it before I got it right....It would have been nice to have a manual and not a ad flyer about all the other Bogner pedals....The pedal looks complecated but really isn't....the variac switch drops the gain and output volume for a more vintage tone....plexi and blue is more of a vintage modern thing....leaving the other two as EQ settings that once set you can leave alone until you change guitars....The boost switch....if I'm honest would have been better used as the plexi blue control....the pedal sounds best left alone and boosted with other pedals....it's own boost is a tad lacking....The EQ controls are very wide ranging and have to be to fit in with whatever amp your using but the extreames can sound too much....once set up for your amp....small changes make big tonal variations....But does it sound like a Marshall....Yes and a big YES....if you treat the Bogner as your amps preamp and boost it using other pedals it sounds massive....I'm using it with an Evil Robot C30 and as soon as you stomp on the Bogner it completely takes over....Jimi....Angus....Slash are all in the Bogner....I didn't expect the pedal to sound as good as it does....once set up you simply control things using your guitars controls and boost things with another OD pedal easy as that....it's awesome....

Bogner, well ...

barney gumble, 31.12.2013
Perhaps the first, who dares to give a Bogner part rather mediocre notes, but for the Blue pedal he deserved it.

First of all, I have already played and amassed all sorts of amps, including various Bogner, Diezel, a 65Amps, original Marshall Plexis, etc., so I think to have a fairly adequate judgment as to sound.

Processing:
Impossible, there is nothing to complain about, the foot switches go like butter and the LED potentiators are also valuable. On the other hand, I would not accept less at a price around the 300 marks for a pedal also.

Sound:
After tests on 4 very different amplifiers, I say that the pedal only sounds when the base amp has a substantial Bassfundament per se. With all the others, the pedal amplifies an already slimmer design of the amp in a rather unpleasant way and you get a rather scratchy and nasal sound.

Plexi Mode:
As the owner of an original Plexis, I allow myself to say that the Plexi Mode for my terms does not deal much with a real plexi, especially as a shake gain is missing. However, the more you gain the gain, the more the sound control is leveled out over the potentiometers and you can only make sound corrections via the boost or gain control switches. The principle applies Reinhold also with its amps (eg "Gain killt EQ" very pronounced with the Shiva), he remains really faithful. Here at the pedal is wrong for me, as a real plexi defines its gain structure massively over mids and height settings in the Tonestack. Here is not much ...

XTC Mode:
The XTC Mode is Reinhold better succeeded, for my terms, the sound in comparison to the original but rather a bit fuzzig become, not necessarily my thing, especially when the boost channel is rather strengthened. The changes in the gain and EQ structure over the toggle switches are clearly perceived and the modes are very well distinguishable, a plus.

Conclusion:
From the marketing idea a good product, since here terms such as Plexi and XTC serve as a moneymaker. On the other hand in the implementation rather, since the pedal is not enough independent to give even a moderate amp of the Bogner factor. People with round and full amps will love the part because it fits the vote, with everything else I have my doubts. I have it at least only with an amp of the 4 tested managed to tickle something, which would remind me of the marketing in the promised.

Everyone should try it out myself, I am certainly not convinced and have left it behind. For 300 euros the sun must rise, more than a morning gray was not.
