A little bomb

Arnaud K., 13.09.2011
Blackstar HT-DistX: A large and solid pedal (10x16cm and not less than 8 cm high all metal) and weighs its weight (1,2 Kg without the adapter).
This is the first impression when unpacking this pedal.

After having seen the important measurements of the bug, we are interested a little more in the technical characteristics:
-A guitar input (Input)
-A output to the amp (Output)
-An input for power supply
.... nothing very surprising but apart from the last Jack: "Emulated Output"! Mine of nothing, it is not so usual that it on a pedal, I would come back later on what it gives.

We have six potentiometers: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, ISF and Volume, so the "Blackstar Classic" (these are the same settings as the saturated channels of their amps, and finally a switch to switch on / De-activate the pedal.

Plug the baby:
Lovers of lamps will be delighted to see the loupiote shine through the grid, a warm orange light that already announces the atmosphere.
By leaving the equalizer in neutral, the pedal shows immediately its attraction for the big sounds, the gain to the minimum already gives us a crunchy sound. At 8 o'clock we already get a good distortion and at 10 o'clock we equal the maximum saturation of the HT-5 on which I test the pedal. Spend noon think to move away the sensitive souls and if you push the gain thoroughly the distortion reaches a level that has nothing to envy to the big "High Gain" amps.
And all this with a precision of the sound to cut with a knife.

Added to this is equalization with the ISF which allows to have a sound more or less pronounced US or UK. Even if it will be used more as a "contour" than anything else. That said, it is very interesting to play both on the ISF of the pedal and on that of the amp behind.

Then comes the test of the emulated output:
This is apparently the same technology as on the HT-5. The sound is good enough in the headphones or to record but this output will be especially practical for rehearsals or small live or you can transcribe the guitar with good sound.

In short: a great big pedal for a big distortion!

Most:
+ The level of distortion.
+ The precision of the sound.
+ Setting EWB
+ The emulated output

The lessers:
-Size
-The weight
-The 22V power supply prevents to go through a DC-Brick power supply.

Super processing, super sound!

Manuel042, 06.12.2009
I have the distorter recommended by a friend who uses this distortion on his recordings. The sound on his recordings convinced me that I ordered the distortion immediately.

When the package arrived, I thought to myself: "Wow, big and heavy!" The device is truly a tank. Good, solid and stable processing. Since you can also gladly live in the live on it, there does not happen much. Also the potentiators are massive and not like other plastic devices.

The sound from the device is hammer. A warm, distorted sound with beautiful sounding overtones. Even with low distortion, the Blackstar delivers a distortion without sounding flat.

The Emulated Output also convinces with its sound. I have tested the output for my last guitar recordings and I'm quite satisfied with the result. You get a very direct sound that does not sound artificial.

The setting possibilities for the own sound are very diverse. The desired sound can be easily adjusted via the EQ and the ISF potentiometer ensures the additional sound color. From British to US sound everything is possible.

Conclusion: I am very pleased with the distortion with the nice tube sound. Good sound, good processing! Recommended.
