Behringer FCA202 F-Control Audio

Firewire Audio Interface

This compact FireWire audio interface is the ideal companion for laptop musicians and a great addition to any studio. Its hot features include: Two inputs and two outputs in 1/4" jack format for connecting synthesisers, mixers and more, 96 kHz high-resolution 24-Bit A/D and D/A converters and a separate headphone output that lets you compose while on the go. Reliable drivers for Windows XP and Mac OS X ensure low latency. Thanks to its sturdy metal construction, the FCA202 can stand up to knocks and bumps on the go and, due to its small housing dimensions, is the ideal recording solution for laptops.

Other features include dual 6-pin FireWire ports, security port for Kensington anti-theft systems, and the ability to power the FCA202 via FireWire bus or power supply. The perfect complement to the FCA202 package is the sequencer software for mobile music productions: Ableton Live Lite 4, in a special BEHRINGER edition. Also included are Crystal and Audacity, two powerful solutions to various recording challenges.

  • 2 Inputs and outputs: 6.3 mm jack
  • High-resolution 24-bit / 96 kHz converters for first-class sound quality
  • Low latency drivers for Windows XP and Mac OS X included

Works with MAC OS Yosemite
Gavin1339, 16.06.2015
Hardware: Mac-Pro Firewire 800
Operating system: OSX 10.10.3 Yosemite
Software: Logic Pro-X & Pro-Tools

OK, lets start at the beginning this is a simple A/D/A - Audio to Digital to Audio converter. It does not have any pre-amps. It has no phantom power, No gain, No trim nor anything other than a 6.35mm headphone jack and a volume control for such. All it does is convert an audio signal to a digital signal via Firewire. It is best used to attach an analogue mixer or other analogue sources to your PC. Or sending audio from your PC to an analogue output such as powered speakers or a mixing desk.

This converter works well with the Macintosh OS as it requires no drivers or additional software to work with the Mac OS (Windows users should research to find if drivers are available for their OS version before ordering). The Macintosh uses it's own in builtin Core Audio facility to drive the this converter which shows as the FCA-202 in the audio selectors.

I have tested this with Firewire 400, Firewire 800 via a powered hub and a 400 to Thunderbolt cable. Each time it has worked perfectly.

There is some latency, that can be adjusted in most DAW software. You have to play around with it to reduce it to close to zero. Apart from this it is very simple to use, giving a clean signal in and a clean signal out.

Don't expect the bundled software to work with the latest OS. But to be honest, if you are buying this, you will probably have better software installed anyway.
