Great tool for monitoring with little weaknesses

I use de MyMonitor now for about 2 years as a monitor mixer for studio recordings (vocals). He is always there when I have studio jobs as a singer, because I always have my own sound in my ear and I still have direct access to the mixing ratio of playback vocals.

Especially in smaller project studios (unfortunately also in larger ones) the monitoring often runs today via the computer or the audio interface. There are always Lazenzen (even with "Direct Monitoring" - only smaller!), Which is always extremely annoying when singing on headphones. To change your own monitor volume, the sound engineer always has to reach into the software mixer, which interrupts the workflow.

Of that I am independent with the MyMonitor and can adjust my mix with one touch. Of course, then there is no feel-good, that's the price.

BUT:
There are a few minor problems with the device:

1. A studio microphone (eg U87) provides too much output for the device and so it comes quickly to distortions. An SM58 or similar fits, so no problem for live application.
Work-around for hobbyists: I have replaced the two 1k ohm resistors in the mic input by 4.7k ohms and thus lowered the gain. Fits now for large studio and still for dynamic mics.

2. There is a phase twist in the mic path! This is particularly annoying when you sing on headphones / in-ear, as the head resonances are no longer in phase with the monitor signal (for instruments that is not a problem). Remedy: Phasendreher before or - as I have done - when replacing the resistors in the input (see 1.) right around the input socket. (No idea if ART fixed this design bug now.)

3. When connecting an in-ear earphone, the sound noticeably loses its bass! I suppose that's because of the low impedance (21 ohms in my case) of the in-ear earphone, which almost forces the amp "to its knees". With my studio headphones Sony MDR-7506 (63 ohms) I could hear no bass loss (test always opposite headphone output from the Mackie console).

4. The battery compartment (well, you can not really call it that) is very funky advised: The battery is simply on the electronics, just duch a piece of cardboard isolated and rattling around in the case. Little more quality would be desirable at this point.

Nevertheless, this little box (with appropriate modifications) is a helper, that I do not want to miss anymore!

Conclusion: Purchase recommendation for use with live microphones and possibly Phasendreher. For studio large diaphragm microphones only with modifcation usable, but then good.

PS 1: Too much noise, as often described here, I can not confirm. Maybe it's because of the connected source / level.

PS 2: Incidentally, the "loop-through" path of the microphone does not appear to produce degradation of the micro-signal. In studios with very high-quality microphones there was no complaint from Ton-Ing.
