High quality, easy to use and nice to look at!
Francescod, 08.09.2014
This audio card really makes some difference when replacing a 200/300EUR audio card, expecially for the quality of the pre-amps. It works really good also with ribbon mics (they need lots of gain, and these pre have enough juice while remaining quiet). Compared to my previous audio card, I noticed this one colored a bit the sound in the mid frequencies field. But in a nice, musical way that never disappointed me. It works great with rock/pop sounds, as this mid frequencies colorations makes a bit easier to dial in with good guitar regordings. The apogee software to control levels and add phantom etc...works very well with my mac (I am on Mountain Lion).
It also has a great design, takes small place on my desk and the 3 assignable buttons are a great thing to set up in the way you prefer. You can link iPhone/iPad and use them together as a portable recording studio, which is also a priceless thing to be considered. The leds and meters are a nice touch too, there is only 1 headphones input, which I didn't like. Apart from this, 4 inputs and 3 pairs of monitor out are enough for most of the project studios, unless you want to record a live band with all the drum mics. I definetly recommend this product, nice, usable and solid. A good quality/price ratio and perfect if you travel and need a portable iPad recording studio!

A must-have (despite the price)
Matteo R., 31.07.2014
I am very, very happy with this unit. I'm am the happy owner of a Firewire-Duet since many years, and thought naturally of Apogee for expanding the farm. I currently use the Quartet to record gigs with my Trio (!).

Recording a full band (db, dr, gt, v) with only four channels is a challenge, but it is feasible, and I won't anyway have time and nerves to set up more than those for channels while also preparing for playing myself.

What I appreciate most of the unit is the ability to hook it up to my iPhone and record with that - no laptop needed. That's basically why I bought it in the end. The display and the volume meters are also sufficiently precise for me to set up the recording volumes without a headphone - with rather good results until now. That's another big plus in terms of convenience.

Sound-wise, the unit is just awesome: crispy and clean, tending to a slightly warmer sound while approaching the top of the dynamic range.

If there is one thing I would like to see improved, it's the power cord / ACDC-adapter. Beside shipping with a US-plug only (which you can easily replace), the adapter looks and feels really cheap and that's not quite acceptable for a unit of this price range. That's a minor issue, though.

Summarising, this is a unit I would recommend to anybody, if the (rather heavy) investment doesn't scare you off.
