Absolutely awesome for the price!

I mainly use this device for Hip-Hop Beat producing which I started half a year ago and It's definately a great tool to help you get a feel for Keys and a midi-controller in general.

Let's take a look at the pro's and cons of this product real quick:

Pros:
+ (maybe the biggest pro) the price. You really get a great device with good quality for the money.
+ good for beginners. You have simple features and a ton of tutorials online.
+ practicability, and immense flexibility. The MPK mini II Mk2 is big enough that you can hit every key and knob without pressing other buttons by accident and small enough that you can take it basically wherever you want to go - I got it in a Laptop bag with my PC and carry it with me almost wherever I go. Whats also great is that it's powered via your USB port at your Computer, so you don't have to worry about the hassle with power supply cables.

Con(s):
- the Setup with the Software is a really complicated process at first, thats something AKAI could've done better I guess. I had to install like 40 programs on my Computer and register it everywhere before making it work with FL Studio, but once you get through this process It was definately worth the hassle!

All in all, the AKAI MPK mini Mk2 is a really really good midi for beginners and I'd definately recommend this to my friends (which I did already actually). It covers all your needs for getting started and gives you the possibility to start getting a feel for keys and midi controllers. The only thing that could be easier is the first setup. But even that is explained on the AKAI Website, so once you're through it you can finally enjoy your product.

Amazing product

I am a producer with little to no knowledge of music theory. This was my first Item that I bought from this website and I could not be more satisfied. It took less than 2 weeks for my order to arrive and the whole time i was updated on where the parcel was.

Installation could not be any easier and comes with a lot of free software included. The price is also great for something so sleek looking, has a great design and has multiple features.

As i mentioned earlier i do not know a lot of music theory asides from knowing which notes match on some scales but the creativeness just exploded especially writing chords. i have been more creative in these last 2 weeks of using the controller than the last 6 months using a pc keyboard. Although it is light weight it is still strong and is very portable and comfortable to use.

Definetly satisfied with this product and the website and would 100% recommend for beginner producers such as myself.

Expected a little bit more

I always trusted Akai in terms of MIDI Controllers. The device has a very good design and a lots of features. The pads feels solid, they're very responsive. Keys aren't the best quality but they do the job. The knobs feel very cheap but I didn't use them very often. My biggest disappointment was the Akai application to program the controller. You can't reprogram the controller while having the DAW opened! That makes the knobs and pads almost unusable, because you have to remember what instrument you would like to have on every note and if you make a mistake then again - you have to close the DAW, make adjustments, send the program and then check again. That's ridiculous! In addition the application looks horrible and it's not intuitive at all. It's also very difficult to save desired configuration on the device. Many times my hours (!) spent on device configuration were lost because it wasn't written to the device.

Pros:
- lots of features
- solid pads

Cons:
- plastic quality (knobs and keys)
- Akai software for the controller

I bought the MPK mini Mkii to make music on the go, at first I loved this product and don't get me wrong, I'll tell you all the pros:

Very lightweight, barely makes a difference in your backpack;
Knobs feel good (for the price of course!);
Perfect for starting;

After two years, here are the cons:

The bottom of the body bent a bit from playing;
The pads have increased latency;
Two of the keys broke, the first C and the first D;
Mod/Pitch analog got stuck and I had to open the keyboard and repair it.

So it's a good keyboard for the price BUT, if you're buying this to throw in your backpack and produce on the go, the build quality of the keys is not good enough for it to be carried on your backpack without protection and apart from that, I take really good care of my material so I'm sure they keys broke due to carrying it around with me.
